Online video storage is not reliable. Websites can shut down or even fail. Here's how to backup your social media presence on your laptop.

My personal story isn't very long. My story is not lengthy. I was born, went to school, worked and then finally, I was online. It also contains some very challenging moments that made me think that it was all over. One of those moments was when my personal computer at work went quiet. However, after a little tweaking and moving the old drive to the new one and installing a brand new desktop, I was able restore all of the work on the drive. It took three days of sweating, figuratively crying... I've learned one thing. It is possible to automate or manually backup my work from the day using Dropbox and personal ftp servers so nothing can ever be deleted.

It's not the ideal solution. The more data you save online, the more you'll have to pay for it to be preserved online. It's very simple and seems safe. It's also easy to download from any internet-connected device. What happens if the internet isn't available? I always have my laptop on hand during these instances. It serves as my last refuge from the most difficult situations. There are two drives I own, and use to create RAID stacks. They copy each other and keep one copy to protect myself in case one of my HDDs is damaged. Since I don't often copy the contents of my laptop, I have made it so that 2 drives do not get separated at the same time.

My other great day of sadness came a couple of years ago. I make sure that I don't perish in the process of completing any work. As I mentioned I have backup copies of it many times. It's also accessible online at any time internet connectivity is accessible. This was different, this was about Periscope. I used it a lot few years back, and even this last summer, during the riots in 2020, I did a few live streams.. Then all of a sudden Periscope TV is closing, and all the videos will disappear in just couple of weeks. What should I do? By the way, if you weren't aware that you could actually create windows copy commands that allow you to put such fragments together and create a normal one-long video file. The format for video used to create video fragments is called MpegTS, which is also known as transport stream. It includes all the data necessary for video decoding in each fragment and makes them separate from the stream itself and allowing each newcomer to start streaming in a seamless manner. However, it can help browsers save transfers of data, as instead of 1hr file it gets 360 x 10 seconds long files. It only downloads those that you are watching, thus even if you watch only 25 seconds of the stream your player ends up downloading only 4-6 fragments (it downloads 3-4 fragments of the current 25 seconds stretch and 1-2 additional fragments, in case you continue watching the stream). This cuts down the total download time to only 25 seconds from the beginning of the stream.
