Understanding Deconstructivist Architecture
Deconstructivist Architecture was a style of art that was developed in the late 1980s. It creates the impression of internal disintegration within a structure. This is usually characterized by a lack or harmony in the structural design. This architectural style aims to create structures that appear to have collapsed naturally, without any human intervention. Their main attractions are their striking simplicity and the sense of flux that these structures create.

The concept of deconstructivist architecture is very similar to later stages postmodernism. Both are concerned with the emergence of an 'anti-system' through an antagonistic interaction of opposing values. Deconstructivist architecture emphasizes the importance of excluding humans from a structure. Deconstructivism has also been credited with being the driving force behind the 'Deconstruction' movement and the genesis of many of today's most significant artistic movements, such as art nouveau and Cubism. It also created some unlikely companions like Dadaism and minimalism, and gave rise to new concepts like futurism and cubism.

Today, Deconstructivist architecture is enjoying a revival in popularity. Architectural designers are exploring the 'alien' shapes again to create new perspectives in architecture. An architect today might take a simple roof panel and turn into a labyrinth that has staircases and exits. Futurists also dream of an architectural wilderness', where materials other than wood are used for building homes and houses.
