Let me tell you the story of my last Arctic cruise. It sounded great, National Geographic trip thru the ice, and back with polar bears and several other wildlife. There would be ice wherever eyes could see , and snow everywhere. Man-made machines would fight the elements to break through the frigid north. It was awe-inspiring, an epic combat against the weather north and the pole.

It was suggested that I bring everything I would be able to carry in my bag. I did carry my laptop along and also put in a larger display to expand the space. Electricity was not an issue, as they told me. It was going to be a tough task and I was unsure what I could expect. I was unaware that two days into the 14 day journey, I would lose my Internet connection and disappear off the planet Earth for the remaining 10 days. I was absolutely stunned when this occurred. No trip, regardless of how far or difficult, will result in the loss of connection from technology. Not only do I have unfinished business as well, I was not prepared for it.

People don't care if they need to shut off the internet. Internet is everywhere, in case your home connection has temporary problems, it is possible to find an area McDonalds and use their free WiFi connection to do what you want to do. You could even take your laptop to Starbucks and place a table at the counter and surf the Internet until you're done. There's no place or café that will help up north, hours away from the nearest shack, with electricity produced by a weak generator.. youtube converter There is no free Internet available. Two options are available in these circumstances: turn off your internet and bring satellite internet.

I can't afford a Sat phone. It's too costly, particularly to get Internet access. But I will next time create a plethora of collection of audio and video prior to venturing to the world without Internet. Last time , I only had 2 songs. The songs were downloaded earlier in the day, and all I was able to listen to was 3 jazz tracks and one song I had no idea the name of. That's it. 4 tunes for 2 weeks of nothingness.. If I knew this would happen I would have planned. I would have packed my computer with television shows movies, as well as a lot of music videos. My most loved podcasts would be the soundtrack to my life. It's easy to download them, then convert them to mp3 to save to my laptop. Then I could simply lay in my bed listening to all the things I like at home but never have the time. This could be my gold hour and would have been two weeks' worth of gold. But, it was actually two weeks of staring at a ceiling and sprinting to catch passengers when there was a sound from the corridors.


Both literally and metaphorically In both ways, the journey was empty. I've never been so bored. I was aware that the ice was thick and the boat had no choice but to turn around and return to the shores of civilization. youtube converter Although this wasn't a surprise, there were many other alternatives. Many hours of downtime could be spent listening to podcasts and DIY tutorials on how to fix problems at home, or simply listening to music. The next time, I'll convert YouTube videos into MP4 and MP3 formats using my laptop. Don't be depressed music can always lift your spirits. Keep in mind that Netflix and Hulu apps allow you to download shows and movies onto your computer for viewing offline. These can also be taken with you for long journeys across the Arctic. Just make sure don't waste on boredom. Good luck!
