Online video storage is not reliable. Websites may shut down or fail. Here are some methods to backup your social video accounts to your own laptop.

My story isn't particularly long. I was born, went to college, and worked until I finally got an internet connection. However, there were some horrible moments when it seemed like everything was lost forever. One of those instances was when my computer at home ceased to respond. After a bit of fiddling, shifting my old desktop to the new one, and a bit more fiddling I was eventually capable of restoring the entire work that was stored on the drive. It took me three days of sweat and tears. However, I did learn an important point: Dropbox and personal file servers can be used to automatically or manually backup my day's work.


But it's definitely not the ideal solution.. You will have to spend more money to maintain your online data store. It is easy to use and it seems very safe. It's also extremely simple to download from any device connected to the internet. What happens if WiFi or other internet connection is not available? I prefer keeping my laptop close at hand for those instances. It is my last protection against losing data. There are 2 drives that are connected to form a RAID stack so they copy each other and ensure that one copy is retained if one of the 2 HDDs goes broken. I only copy stuff there, usually, so I seldom do I make my laptop work. I am hoping 2 drives won't go out on the same day..

Some time ago, another major day of sorrow was. I make sure that I don't perish in the process of completing any work. Like I said, I have backup copies of it many times. Also, it is available online at any time internet connectivity is accessible. This was Periscope. It was a tool I used quite often a several years ago. And even last summer, when there were protests in the city, I was able make a few live streaming. In the present, Periscope TV is closing down and all the videos will disappear in the next few weeks. If you weren't aware, the windows copy command will allow you to join these fragments to create a standard length video file. The format for video used to create video fragments is called MpegTS, which is also known as transport stream. It contains all the data required for video decoding in each fragment. Every stream can be initiated from the middle with no interruption. The program also stores data on the browser since it downloads 360x10 seconds files instead of the standard 1hr file. So, even if you only watch 25 seconds of the stream it will download only 4-6 fragments. (It gets 3-4 fragments from the 25 second stretch plus 1-2 subsequent fragments if you keep watching the stream). This means you can save a lot of data by downloading only 25 seconds of stream video.
