Young DJs need to invest in high-quality music. MP3s with low bitrates aren't the best choice.

I am not a DJ. This is what I've always maintained. In high school and in college, I attempted DJing. I could not duplicate what I had seen elsewhere. To be honest I could not think or hear the steps required to become a DJ. I'd often miss the beat, switch to 7th instead of 8th, and other issues made my DJ career impossible. However, I'm a devoted listener. I can tell if DJs are missing a beat. I can also see where they are making mistakes. However, I am not able to entertain people non-stop for many hours.

Do not let yourself be discouraged if your aim is to become DJ professional. My story should not be a hindrance to your plans. I believe in being open to changes and doing what you love. Do what you want and be you. DJs can be so inflexible, and require constant encouragement to keep their eyes on reality. It's good to be able to look at the world around them. The New Trier DJ must not be converting Youtube videos into mp3, as it is prohibited in their TOS. Also, it is not acceptable to human ears for sound quality. The bitrate for any music video or video that has been converted to MP3 is 128 kbps. This technically allows for 160kbps mp3, but it's not acceptable. These numbers shouldn't be confusing. If you are a DJ or computer sound enthusiast like me you'll know that mp3 could hold as much as 320kbps of sound quality. It's great, but it's basically removed sound that can be compressed into mp3 through cutting the lowest and highest frequency of sound. And so final sound is a bit muddy.. The most deep house music won't sound any deeper when played at 320kbps MP3. You can compare it to playing it on the viynil.


New beginner DJs' shouldn't put their time (and maybe even cash) in cheap versions of the most popular songs. Beatport, Juno Download and Fruity Loops are great places to begin. You have access to a huge collection of sound quality which is solid and top-quality. This can then be used to make remixes, mashups or remixes. The sound will be amazing due to its rich bass even if you add the bass of a lower quality MP3. This is what mp3 sound is often lacking: amazing bass.

But knowing that should not make a DJ who is new feel more at ease. Don't forget to improve your sound every day. This is the reason why great musicians and entertainers. So that you can give the most entertaining live sets, the best dance moods, and best times for your club's youngsters, it's always recommended to put money into your equipment.
