SariAgri - Pemerintah Kabupaten Situbondo, Jawa Timur, mencanangkan pengembangan tanaman padi varietas baru, yakni bibit padi BK-700 sebagai upaya meningkatkan pendapatan para petani padi di wilayah setempat.
Kepala Dinas Tanaman Pangan, Hortikultura dan Perkebunan (Dinas TPHP) Kabupaten Situbondo Sentot Sugiyono, Kamis, mengatakan bahwa bibit padi varietas BK-700 memiliki keunggulan umur panen padi pendek atau lebih cepat dari bibit padi pada umumnya.
"Umur panen bibit padi BK-700 hanya 90 hingga 95 hari, sedangkan bibit padi pada umumnya mencapai 120 hari. lahan pertanian ini lebih cepat masa panennya," ujar Sentot di Situbondo.
Selain memiliki kelebihan umur panen lebih cepat, kata dia, bulir padi BK-700 per batangnya lebih banyak yakni mencapai sekitar 700 bulir, dan bibit padi pada umumnya sekitar 400 hingga 500 bulir per batang padi.
Bibit padi unggul yang diberi nama BK-700 ini, lanjut Sentot, memiliki potensi panen mencapai 10 hingga 11 ton per hektare, sedangkan bibit padi biasa hanya sekitar 6 ton hingga 7 ton per hektare.
"Sesuai keinginan Pak Bupati, pilot project pengembangan tanaman padi BK-700 akan dimulai pada Juni atau bulan depan," tuturnya.
Sentot menambahkan, lahan hamparan sawah untuk percontohan pengembangan tanaman padi BK-700 Dinas TPHP mulai menyiapkannya seluas 10 hektare.
"Petunjuk Pak Bupati untuk pengembangan tanaman padi BK-700 ini 10 hektare. Tentu ini akan kami intensifkan dan ada SOP dalam perawatannya," kata dia.
