How to Cut Avocado For Sushi
Have you ever wondered how to cut avocado for sushi? Even sushi beginners can slice this tasty fruit easily by following a few simple steps. There are many different ways to slice an avocado for sushi; however, the following technique will focus mainly on the half-fat, half-sushi style. While the entire process may sound daunting at first, with just a little practice, you'll soon really ace it. Remember that while the technique may seem challenging, it's actually quite easy. Just be sure the avocado isn't too fresh when you begin.

Begin by standing or sitting in a chair with your feet on the ground. Then, using a sharp kitchen knife or some wooden skewers, cut the avocado straight across at about a quarter inch from the edge. Hold the knife in a downward position to slash at the fruit from the outside in. Hold your hands together to keep the knife stable while you cut. When you're done, be sure to serve your vegan avocado rolls with a generous helping of sesame or mayo.

Another way to slice an avocado for a sushi roll is by pressing down on it while it's still firm and pliable. You should press down about half an inch from the edge. When you slice this way, it creates a nice, thin slice.

If you have difficulty reaching the ends, you can also use a pair of scissors or even your fingernails to trim it. When you're done, place the unpeeled fruit on a flat surface such as a baking sheet or a sheet of parchment paper. Spread it out flat against the sheet so that it is level and then start cutting again by slicing lengthwise. Again, if your recipe calls for crosswise slices, be sure to do them. Remember, the longer you hold a piece of fruit or vegetable, the harder it is to cut it. It will eventually become almost cut into pieces as it cooks.

Step 3: The third step is to remove the pit. To do this, grasp the fruit with your finger tips and gently peel off the pit. Hold the pit against the opposite side of the avocado and gently press down. This should produce a smooth, even layer of avocado skin that will serve as the base of the next step. Hold the pit against the piece of sushi and slice along the pit.

Step 2: The final step is to chop the avocado into uniform pieces. Hold the slices aloft and slice down lengthwise. This should create uniform, even pieces. Your finished product should look something like a flattened M&M.
