How do you keep boredom at bay while working for long hours as a night security guard at an underground facility

It's tough times. This new world of gig economy is one that I am finding hard to navigate like I did before. I was doing very well prior to the pandemic, but now, in addition to my primary job as a dental assistant, I have to accept a night-time job as a security guard at an adjacent machine manufacturing plant. Most of it is controlled by computers. There are some workers in the daytime but I am the only one and 2 engineers on night crew. I've got an emergency number I can contact should there be any issues or if machinery suddenly stops functioning. I call engineers, and/or call the outside line to find more engineers. I do nothing. You see, they're not generating any value in this regard. So night guard is really a glorified switchboard attendant.

It's quiet and peaceful, which I find quite enjoyable. It's a peaceful environment, I've had a hard time getting to sleep at night due the excessive release of gas and this isn't a problem. Even though nights are boring I do my best to get them to go by faster by trying new things. For instance, in the last 2 weeks, I've working on the Tik Tok dance. It's not too difficult but it's a challenge for me to recreate the dance. The dance was taught to me by a younger Tik Tok sister, and therefore it's not easy. I'm not old enough to be able to describe the dance.

Recently I've been trying different videos for fixing cars. While I don’t know how to apply these techniques to my car immediately I do like watching others fixing their cars. DIY videos are instructive and simple to follow. So I began running into another problem. save from Internet would cease to work on my phone at some point. I couldn't connect to any video or other useful thing because, as we all know, internet is essential to everything. I discovered how to download Youtube videos onto my phone. Even though internet is slow, I can watch diy videos from my phone. It doesn't matter where you stream from, where you store them on your phone or whether you download them in your home and then use your smartphone to watch it offline if there is no internet connection. It's easy to set up DVR for your online video and not just TV shows.


In the realm of TV, I learned the ability to download the latest episodes, or movies, too, straight to my personal computer. I took my laptop to work due to its bigger screen as well as better speakers. It's much simpler to watch TV shows there. I joined HULU and Netflix. I am now able to download their app and enjoy films instead of streaming them. The duration of the show as well as quality options will determine how quickly the movie will download to my device. Then, it will be available all the time, without internet access. Even though the show is just 15 minutes in length, I can still watch television while waiting for the train to work.

There are many educational or simply fascinating materials I can get at home, and then take to work. This makes my workday much more efficient. YouTube's webinars are great. However, it's tough to stay focused on the topic even when interrupted many times. It's easy to see how. You know what I'm referring to?

My son is sometimes working with me. On days like these, my wife is working night shifts, which makes it difficult to stay home with our child. So I accompany him, place him near the screens of my computer and he sleeps quickly. If he wakes up I give him my laptop as well as some of the music videos I downloaded. He's happy, and I'm happy to do my own thing with my mobile. Doing our own thing is how we work better together. He likes to come with me. This could be due to the fact that he stays up late, which is what children want.
