How to keep current with the music of your home country, even if it's 10 years since you left.

What's your life like? I am a Russki young man who moved to America to seek a better future. I was extremely poor back in Russia. I wasn't near the middle class, and I never had a lot of money. It wasn't me but my family. Russia was a nation where young adults didn't require money when they were growing up. So, we had to come up with new ways to make money. There are many strategies that resemble alcohol users soliciting money from their neighbors for their shared vodka bottles. Similar to the above, we would seek out ways to earn quick cash and even buy bread. We were always hungry.

So, I arrived in America. But it isn't anywhere like New York or Brooklyn or Brighton Beach. This place is a great reminder of my home. It's loud, filthy, there's a lot of Russian language everywhere, and rude people - it's just normal Russian city life. I've spent quite a lot of money in Russian restaurants and bookstores.

Books and music are among my favorite things. Nowadays, it is possible to browse Russian literature online, as was the norm in recent years. And so I stopped buying hard copy books, plus I don't really have any space in my home, and my wife is quite an escapist, so I do everything possible not to contribute to her and that includes avoiding purchasing new items that I don't need laying around my house, because I have nowhere to put it... Although stacks and stacks of books looked smart in the beginning, when they grew older they began to look dull and dull. Later I moved them to my garage.

Music is an entirely different genre. My job involves an extensive amount of driving, and I have a lot of music. Also, as a Russian immigrant, I haven't been able to appreciate any new music that I have discovered in the USA.. I'm not a fanof rap or hip hop. Also, all the modern music that kids love to dance to.. I am a huge fan of the old Russian music, as well as the Russian songs that are jail-like. They're still popular even after all these years absent, and are not on CDs, - mostly tapes in cars, and YouTube videos. They do put everything on Youtube these days. You can find me on Youtube for hours, even after hours.


After a few weeks I was able create a lengthy playlist of over 300 songs which I truly enjoy. This is my constant friend. I can listen to it throughout the day and don't have any problems getting used. There are 300 songs! But when I want the songs to be played in my car, I don’t always have internet access. I require it to drive, for navigation. Therefore, I prepare at home. I'm currently in the middle. I upload a handful of songs to Youtube as MP3 files. Then, I burn those MP3s to CDs using my computer. Then, I take the CD to my car and listen. The site lets you take your Youtube playlist and print the songs. Each song can be saved to your computer in an mp3 file. Once the songs are printed out, it is simple to save them to an audio CD. Sometimes, I make an error and just make dataCD. Then it's easy to transfer it onto audio CD. But when audio is recorded, it's fascinating to see how technology works. I don't even need to be connected, I don't need any devices to play MP3. I just insert CD into my car stereo and there the music of Russia is blasting throughout Manhattan, when I get there during my drive.

It's very easy to grab videos on Youtube and save them as mp3 files. You can then download them onto your Smartphone. https://ytmp3.guru One of my acquaintances connected his phone to his car stereo. It was playing great sound quality in under 2 seconds. It doesn't require a lot of Internet to stream Spotify or Pandora radio. This is something I'd love to test. Of course, I'll be careful not to use any free WiFi.
