B Active Mummas - group fitness group with focus on pregnancy and postnatal care - https://business.facebook.com/bactivemummas/ - care outside the medical system - is not funded by medical insurance (private or public), the fitness part of their initiative is paid (albeit low cost).

Gippsland Lakes Community Health - contact Maternal and Child Health on 5155 8300.
Their Maternal and Child Health service provides assessment, education and advice to parents of children up to six years old. This can include growth and development, nutritional needs, lactation, family issues, parenting skills - and the centre is well connected with community groups and offers many opportunities to meet other parents. Checkups are provided at critical times and an Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service provides services to families who require additional or specialist support. They have a 'New Parent’s Group' the group meets weekly for eight weeks and aims to provide first time parents with relevant information and encouragement. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, a Victorian government program focusing on addressing maternal risk behaviours and is also based at the community health centre. The Centre is funded by Medicare, and the state government.

GPs -


BRHS - Maternal services include a dedicated birth suite, specialist team of midwives, GPs, obstetricians, lactation experts and visiting consultants
You can chose your preferred GP Obstetrician (GPO).
The team of BRHS midwives will manage your pregnancy, labour and postnatal care collaboratively with your GPO.
The hospital maternity antenatal services are offered from our CBD campus at 183 Main Street, Bairnsdale, and the labour ward at the acute campus on Day Street, Bairnsdale.
Once you return home with your baby a midwife will contact you and arrange a home visit. We maintain this contact for up to two weeks, however this is flexible depending on individual needs.
We also have midwife appointments available on Tuesdays at our CBD campus for women who may be experiencing postnatal breastfeeding difficulties, or who may need extra support and advice.
Our midwives work in consultation with your Maternal and Child Health Nurses during the early weeks when you are home and we are able to contact your Doctor on your behalf if required.

GEGAC's Koori Maternity Service (KMS) - Phone: 03 5150 0760, www.gegac.org.au
Focuses on culturally appropriate care up to six weeks after birth. A Koori midwife is available on week days, as is a health worker. Can provide referrals to services as well as provide educational support incl. of topics like breast feeding.
