Does Keyword Density Still Matter For Seo
If you read back through older info on search engine marketing (SEO), like information from 4-5 in the past, you will probably notice that keyword density played an important role in what sort of page ranked on the internet. In case you are unfamiliar with the word, "keyword density" refers to the ratio of the target keywords to the rest of the words on the webpage. Webmasters and SEO's (myself included) would spend a great deal of time analyzing pages looking to determine the perfect keyword density that will send our pages on the top with the engines like google. Each engine had their "sweet spot" if this found keyword density. If you might find that sweet spot, you were golden.



Unfortunately, those times have ended. So much of your pages ranking today is dependent upon FAR more than keyword density. Factors including backlink building, link reputation, LSI (latent semantic indexing), supporting phrases, etc. all player a role in a way or any other also to one extent and other in the ranking of an page. There are so many additional factors in play that it's not unusual for pages to rank quite high for any term that's not even around the page because of the right combination of variables.

So, creates this change mean keyword density is dead? Well, to some degree yes. Keyword density still leads to what sort of page ranks, it's simply that it's nowhere close to as important a part mainly because it was 4-5 in the past. In other words, if all the other the situation is equal, the page which includes the keyword on it, will outrank a webpage that doesn't, but because a page includes a high keyword density does not necessarily mean it is going to rank well inside engines.

When designing pages with seo planned today, I generally shoot for the keyword density anywhere from 3-15%. The density will generally depend on the amount of text on a page. I don't' sweat it. I want the page to see naturally. I also make an effort to include other "supporting" phrases in the page like synonyms and other words or phrases you would expect to locate over a page with all the keyword I am targeting. This is becoming a lot more important, but I'll cover more and more in another article.
