The FINRA, the Professional Investment Advisors Association, is an organization that sets the rules for investment advisers. If you are an advisor, it is very important that you follow these rules and regulations or you can get yourself into some serious trouble with your state regulator and the FINRA itself. One of the first things that happens when an investor files a complaint is that they will be asked to attend a formal training session. During this training, an investment adviser learns not only how to better manage their own behavior with their clients but also how to better handle themselves when they are called to account by the FINRA or the state securities regulators.
The next step in the process is the creation of a FINRA registration form. This forms is a living, breathing example of everything that an investor needs to know about state and federal securities laws. This is also where the training ends. There are three requirements that a future investment adviser must meet before he or she can start to practice in any state in the US. In addition to the standard programs, there are also many technical courses on investment strategies that will allow you to meet the requirements for becoming a registered investment adviser in the U.S.
