Review of The Drug King - A Movie Review
"The Drug King" was a film I watched while waiting for The DaVinci Code to be released. I loved the first two films so I knew I would love this one. I figured someone who hadn't seen either would be an ideal person to comment on the film. It's sometimes difficult to find something novel in a theater stuffed with action, dramas, comedy flicks, thrillers, and other genres. In this instance, however, The Drug King is a fantastic choice. It is a captivating story with great acting and some truly bizarre characters.

It's set in contemporary Japan and the protagonist is played by Hidehiko Yamane is an innocent Japanese man who becomes an extremely powerful and brutal drug lord. The acting is universally great and there's a fascinating story in here all. It is often lost in the repetitive characters, overused characters, lack of plot developments, and boring twists. The film could benefit from a better plot and more original characters and better acting if it wanted to stand out among the other action-packed films that are currently in the summer.

Instead, the movie plows through the action as it is used to do: with little to no anticipation. There are no brightly colored characters, spooky locations, vibrant costumes, Chinese mysticism or martial arts rituals. Kim's hairstyle, wardrobe, and facial expressions are the only things that appear different from scene to scene. There are too many boring scenes and scenes in the movie. The film revolves around drug trade from the drug the lord to his victims through the mandatory police meetings and inter-office politics. The only thing that differs between scenes is the colors of the uniforms.

The main character in the film apart from Kim Dong-cheon (Chin Na-young) is the actress Doo-sam. Doo-sam is Kim, the brilliant drug lord who rises to power on the Korean peninsula. หนัง เจ้าพ่อ He is a brilliant strategist and intelligent man. He is also an expert planner and ambitious planner. He is a master manipulator and plans to make use of the power of fear to accomplish his goals. At the same time, he loves his daughter, Onmyo (Choi Hong-Sul), and wants to defend her. The film explores how power corrupts and why loyalty matters more than wealth in a nation controlled by the drug trade.

Kim is also a ruthless, ambitious gangster whose history has been kept from Onmyo. She is extremely upset because her husband is missing and she suspects him of being involved in the drug trade. On the other side, Doosam has a rival in drug lord Bum shing, who is seeking control over the lucrative drug industry. When the two fight it out over the drug turf, the police discover that Kim and his goons have also organized an appointment with Yoo-jung, the Chinese drug lord Yoo-jung.

When the Chinese learn that Doosam and Yoo-jung are in a relationship they attempt to stop them, but are defeated by the good officers of the Korean National Police Force (KNPF). Soon they discover that Doo-sam's goons also kidnapped and snatched the KNPF chief's daughter to their secret hideout. The KNPF decides to search the compound and rescue little girl. Doo-san learns that the drug king also has powerful weapons , and decides to fight the Koreans. The film concludes with Doo-san's goons shooting at the NPF.

The movie shows the lives of two different characters, which reveals the changing cultural environment in Korea. The opening scene shows the drug king with his crew enjoying a barbecue as a helicopter hovers above. The Chinese restaurant in the background displays their long traditional Chinese meals while Yoo-jung and Doo-sam sit together for their dinner. It is interesting to know that the choppers in the background are actually Korean helicopters which are used in the military.

This film is not for those who enjoy action sequences or superheroes. The film is full of action sequences, but it's about two characters who are in the middle a power struggle. Many movies follow a similar structure for plots. The storyline wasn't as complicated as I expected because it wasn't written as screenplay. Overall, it is an acceptable film from Korea however, it's not as good as my other favorite films like the Replacements and Meet the Parents.
