The Digestive System, and how it works..........

1.when you go to bite lets say on an apple, to cut the apple you use your incisors ( front teeth) to slice into the apple, then you would use your pre molars which are the set of molars before your back ones to crush the food.

2.next you would use your tongue to swish around the food. your tongue uses enzymes to make your food into bolus which forms the food into a ball small enough to go down your esophagus.

3. when u go to swallow your uvula( the long dangly thing that extends to the back of your soft pallet) swings back and front to seal off your nasal cavity so then food does not go up through your nose. down goes the food through your pharynx which is the common opening behind your nasal and oral cavity. which then leads through your esophagus.

4. you have two pipes your trachea ( wind pipe) and your Esophagus which is your digestive pipe. when you swallow food your epiglottis which is a flap that covers your trachea so then food does not go down into your lungs. continuing on from your esophagus which leads on to your stomach.

5. your liver sits right behind your stomach and intestines, it is meant to filter out toxins, such as drugs or alcohol. it also sends bile into your gall bladder.

6. your stomach contains these digestive enzymes that makes the food into smaller pieces. we also have a stomach acid of 2.4 which also breaks down food so then you can easily transport it into your small intestines.

7. your small intestines are known to be the main digestive source. they absorbed and digest food using digestive enzymes. your small intestines connect to your large intestines.

8. your large intestines are in charge of keeping track of your salt and water levels. connected to your large intestines is your appendix. your appendix in mostly usless, but it does contain good gut bacteria which can be super harmful if it were to burst.

9. next you have your gall bladder which connects to your small intestine, which is filled with bile that is collected from the liver.

10. another thing that connects to your intestine is your pancreas. your pancreas makes and secretes digestive enzymes that break down carbohydrates ( sugar ), lipids ( fat ), and protein, it also breaks down bicarbonate ( baking soda ).

11. continuing from your large intestines is your rectum, your rectum is the last 6 inches of your large intestines which retracts feces which then leads down to your anus which releases those feces.

ADD ONS
you have salivary glands which produce saliva
- sublingual gland- tongue
- submandibular gland -jaw
-parotid gland

Sphincters, they control the flow of digestive material

THE END.............
