This is Eirene in 8th period. I thought of an idea that I would like to implement as a club where we would be a research club that focuses on discovering, evaluating, and participating in different ways where students can play a role in brightening the days of more vulnerable populations and educating ourselves on how we can serve the community in a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly way. The participation part of the club would include a variety of activities such as a project that I launched during the summer where I repurposed leftover flowers from wedding venues and donated them to nursing homes, hospitals, and other places. I would like to establish this research club to expand this project and explore other innovative ways that meet our above goals. When I proposed this club idea to Ms. Crane, she suggested that I ask for your opinion on whether I should establish this club separately or incorporate it as a part of the club you sponsor, MMOB.
I have gone through the club list spreadsheet and read the description of MMOB and I believe the goals and structure of my club differ greatly from those of MMOB. On the club list, MMOB's description was "It is a parent supervised community service organization," but I would like to direct a portion of the focus of my club on also researching, discovering, and evaluating ways that we can contribute to our community rather than solely focusing on the participation part. Additionally, I saw on the MHS clubs list that there were many other organizations that are very similar to MMOB and could be incorporated as a part of your club such as AKIN, Beta Club, Girls Helping Girls, Helping Hands, Memorial Coastal Crew, MHS Red Cross, PAW, and virtually every other service club that could technically be smaller projects within the entire MMOB organization. However, I have a very different goal of allocating time and effort into research and discovery in addition to the actual volunteering portion, which differentiates me from the rest of the clubs including MMOB, which is why I hope I can be given the opportunity to establish my club separately.
Additionally, allowing me to establish my club as a separate entity would give me and my club a lot more flexibility, the opportunity for independent growth, and would allow me to learn things more independently. If I had my own club, I would have the chance of growing my club from the very beginning on my own rather than having it set up as a part of an organization that already has hundreds of members, which is really important to me because the process of growth includes many learning experiences and important lessons. I would also be able to gain leadership skills by learning to manage and establish the club independently rather than relying on a previously established club, which builds on my previous point of having opportunities to learn on my own.
I would really appreciate it if you’d support my idea of starting this club as my own club, but if not I understand and we can discuss further.
Thank you for your time!
