Postmodern Art Basic Components
Postmodern architecture came into existence in the 1960s, against the uniformity of modern architecture. While some the critics of postmodern architecture have dismissed it as shabby and unattractive however, it has nonetheless had a profound impact on many important landscapes across the world. The architectural statements may be large or small, the effect of these structures is clear.

Contrary to modern-day buildings which have a uniform appearance most buildings built during this period are irregular in both their shape and composition. This creates an aesthetic experience that is different between the highly technical and controlled architectural styles of the time and the concrete chaos that was prevalent in the majority of buildings following World War II. Postmodern art's surfaces are often more stylized than other forms of art that are contemporary. TONSILP ARCHITECT Many modern artists describe their works as having the appearance of lightly "drawn" pages. The architectural shapes and structures of this period tend to be irregular in their overall design, which attempts to balance geometric precision with basic flaws that are that are found in nature.

Postmodern art is known for its paradoxes in the execution of form. It is evident that a lot of works created during this period to try to create a sense of oddity in the way they appear. For example, a piece of contemporary art may present an entirely symmetrical design however, when zoomed in or looked at closely it may reveal that the figure depicted was disjointed. This is typically the situation when postmodern art is viewed from an oblique angle. Another common feature is the repetition of architecture and structure.

This is best illustrated by the Vase of Eternal Love by Gustav Stickley, which juxtaposes the magnificent buildings and palaces of the French monarchy with the smaller steeples from the early American city Salinas. Like the former it provides an unambiguous picture of the sublime, but it also contains a range of practical messages to the viewer. The first point being conveyed is the idea that beauty is a constant thing and never changes. While the steeples in Salinas differ from those in Paris however the fundamental structural elements remain the exact same. This helps create an overall sense of continuity throughout the piece.

The second aspect of the subject's theme is symmetry. This refers to the ability to replicate the same design pattern across different areas of an image. The artwork can be viewed to show that the viewer understands the symbolic meanings behind architectural designs. The symmetry of images help create the illusion of a greater overall understanding. This is especially relevant in architecture, and other forms of art. In a series of works entitled The Postmodern Art of Paris, Stickley seeks to demonstrate the impact that constant changes have on the aesthetic value of architecture.

The third fundamental principle in postmodern art is using background and foreground, or the division between objects in an image. The artist arranges objects in a way that provides a structure for the rest of the work. This makes it easier to create meaningful artwork, as there's no unnecessary detail.

The final element is related to the scale. Art that is considered to be postmodern often exhibits an absence of geometric precision. While the medium isn't perfect in this regard however, the result can have a profound effect on viewers. The lack of form can make the whole picture appear disjointed. It's like the viewer is unable to follow along the visual flow. This kind of art is usually simplistic and almost surreal.

They are among the top aspects of postmodern art that is contemporary. Any given piece will most likely exhibit all or some of these fundamental elements. It may help to study works of less well-known artists or take a course on this emerging form of art to find the exact style you are looking for.
