Expressionist Architecture
Expressionist architecture is the aesthetic style that was prevalent in circles of architects in the early part 20th century. There are three primary kinds of architectural styles: Dadaism (Fauvism), Cubism (Cubism). Expressionist architecture in its purest form was defined by the absence of decorations and color, a dependence on flat surfaces to construct its buildings, and a strong emphasis on the human form and the texture. Expressionist architecture was initially described as the architectural work of avant-garde Czech, Dutch, Austrian and German architects between 1910 between 1910 and 1930. This style was born out of a desire for modernist buildings in a simpler manner.

Dadaism grew out of the salon fashion encouraged by the Viennese Expressionist painter Julius Frank, whose works were a hit with art lovers of this time. His style was heavily inspired by emotions and emotion. This movement also revitalized the idea of art since it was believed by artists to have an immediate connection with the human emotions. One of the most famous examples of Expressionist architectural designs is the structure he built at Dessau, which he called simply an apartment.

Fauvism is, on the other hand, is an ideology that arose out of the prevailing of Cubism and Neoclassicism. It was a search for an architectural style which was free of human characteristics. The architect was a French architect named Louis Paul de Maistre, who was inspired by the French Expressionists. He believed that architects should be able "to free his mind". He believed that happiness is determined by how the human being interacts with his house.

The World War I brought about the Third Wave of expressionist architecture. Architects were determined to make a difference by creating more radical types of architecture. This was when expressionism began to fall apart. A lot of architects were accused of'stagnant modernism'. Their designs were criticized for being boring and sterile. Expressionist architecture Some architects attempted to combine traditional techniques with modern materials. They hoped to contribute to the artistic elements of contemporary architecture, but they failed to incorporate any innovative concepts into their designs.

An excellent illustration of the expressionist style is found in work of architects such as Bruno Taut, who is most famous for his design of the Barcelona Cathedral. It is evident in his work that he was influenced mostly by the ancient Roman structures like the Acropolis and the Pantheon. He loved flying machines and wheels and his most striking characteristic was the lack of ornamentation.

Bruno Taut, Peter Eisenman, and his colleagues created the famous Werkbund Exhibition. This pavilion is one the most striking expressionist architectural works of the period. It was first utilized by Nazis in World War II as a symbol for their power and to hide in. The word "werkbund" is simply a reference to the structure with which the glass was assembled and the wooden box became the dwelling of this unique architect. Taut included a lot of glass in his masterpiece. All of it was carefully selected from Europe to ensure that it was weatherproof. The glass box was constructed from wood, which is something that Bruno Taut never compromised.

Expressionist art and architecture were extremely popular during the 20th century, as artists such as Jasper Johns, Frank Stella, Paul Durand-Ruel, and Frantz Boas were able utilize the style to produce exquisite works. The movement was also met with strong opposition from conservative politicians as well as architects and artists from the conservative side who were against the idea of breaking away from the traditions of past. The opposition to Expressionist art and architecture was led by people like Frank Stella, who was especially drawn to the stylised forms and symmetries of the Expressionist buildings, as he believed that this style could offer an aesthetically more refined perception of beauty, than was the monotonous stuttering of conservative art. This style of architecture was adopted by a few elements of British Royalty who built huge palaces in silent complexes using stained glass. The British Royalty's adoration for Expressionism architecture is evident in many of their modern homes which are filled with glass, and often create a feeling of being outside even though inside there are massive panels of glass that block the sun's rays. In fact the British Royalty's love for Expressionism architecture is so incredible, that over the last few years, they have been barred from the buildings they built, because they have caused damage to the Ozone layer.

Today, the 21st century has seen Expressionist architecture take on a new form and a whole new type of architecture emerging that are focused on fun, yet are able to evoke an extremely strong emotional response from those who see them. A lot of people are beginning to look into the inner experiences that can be found when looking inside these types of buildings, and it's becoming apparent that these types of buildings can have a profound effect on the perception of those who visit them. The architecture of the interior experience can bring up strong feelings of faith or the need to leave one's comfort zone in order to attain spiritual awakening. It is apparent in many churches being built with this kind of architecture. Many churches plan to build places for worship in their new buildings that will give their congregation members to meditate or even receive communion in the midst of beautiful natural scenery.
