Learn How To Malding Exactly Like Lady Gaga
A few weeks ago, they requested for me to compose an essay on a painting by Hopper as well as the Nighthawks, and I, as an experienced researcher, was able to learn more. Since it is generally known or at the very least, taught by experience, in order to appreciate a painting one must know its history, the author and most importantly the context in the which it was painted. Art is definitely an universal thing, that transcends time and space, and therefore readable over the course of hundreds of years. However, the interpretations alter, as does the way society and the world evolve and what was once able to be easily seen, maybe decades ago, is now evident. What was not considered before is now revealing the work to us in a totally different manner.

Re-defining a work over time
This is a bit like what I imagine happens when you look at the work of Hopper's " Nighthawks", closed at the bar, late at night, in that window, which resembles a fish tank, in the same position as the characters he that are observed.

I believe that , in this painting, Hopper would have wanted to provide space to the viewer, allowing him to observe the silent tranquil, precise and serene scene given to us by the darkness.

The space, designed for an active viewer may be the most important element, which allows the painting to be reinterpreted in the course of time, and to remain timeless, indestructible contemporary, and contemporary.

The work, created in 1942, cannot be immediately attributable to a precise historical moment however it appears that its dating is changeable according to the changes in the viewer, according to the moment at the period in which the work is viewed.

In my opinion this is what is essential to reading, the space that is occupied to the reader Hopper was hoping to create.

I'll explain.

Researching information and news on Hopper's " Nighthawks" I was able see how people describe it , highlighting the following elements:

"[...] the loneliness, the sense of being empty in a world whose shimmering patina begins to give way [...] The distinctly commercial character, the false myths take off their masks and reveal the world as a blurred reality, with no valid points of reference Isolated by doubt and lack of conscience. "

Night and transformation
I think this interpretation is a little ambiguous which means that it's an interpretation influenced by the social context and by the dating that is attributed to the work of The United States between the 40s and 50s during the boom in economics that redefined social and cultural assets in the lives of individuals, a society that is even a bit bourgeois, where nightclubs are viewed as places of isolation or despair.

It's true in a certain degree, and slightly not.

The first time I saw this painting, and without having studied it, it brought me happiness and peace with its vibrant contrast and nocturnal stillness.

If I'm from the midst of a huge, noisy and bustling metropolis, the night is one of the moments when I can experience the city in a more peaceful way: fewer people around more cars and less noise, more space between the streets to make the most of, and which place to rest under the night sky that is starless. The night is a different meaning for me from the people who drank in bars across America. United States during the 40s: when the sun goes down, the city transforms its face, streets become more open and simple.

We must not forget how society has changed over the course of more than half a century of social and cultural shifts, that occurred between Pop and Rock culture, between the psychedelic movement and the 2000s.

Personally, as a daughter in the 90s, I have also grown up at night and by "growing up" I'm referring to every one of the "formative" experiences that the night gave me. For malding is always normal to go out in the evening and walk through the neighborhood on Saturdays , looking for the best nightclub, dancing till dawn while riding a motorbike, or car to locate the last bar open to grab the bread or hot pizza, where to drink the last glass of wine and light the last cigarette before sunrise arrived. Perhaps from the 80s to the present, nightlife stopped from frightening those who stayed the house (let's keep in mind the anti-prohibitionism movement, jazz music and the notorious Cursed Poets, all perfect nights owls) and has since become the place where the majority of people of the world find comfort and peace of other night hawks.

Hopper's modern realist style
The painting of Hopper today reminds me of numerous scenes from modern life. It makes me almost satisfied and compassionate, especially with the last three characters, who have a chat while the bartender is cleaning the bar to end a day and open another. The nocturnes want to rest in the solitude of their nightly companions. They contemplate their lives, watching their surroundings through a glass, and meet as a tribe in the night, welcoming everyone and judging no one. It's not a coincidence that in the most ancient primitive civilizations like the Indian one the half hour before sunrise is known as Brahmamuhurta or the time of Brahma which is the ideal time to devote yourself to prayer, meditation studying, and contemplation. In this time, the energy levels are higher and intense, but they are of an ethereal, spiritual focus.

I don't see any solitude or emptiness in Hopper's painting; I found more among the streets that were gentrified in the night quarters, as even the right-thinking people started drinking in the evening.

So that, even the oldest and most popular neighborhoods had to be transformed into showcases for the consumer as well as the spontaneous aggregations of people who gathered in the square had to arrange themselves in line waiting to be seated while the sound of the drums along the side of the street was silenced by the police sirens. This is what worries me today because the night is desnatured by its sacred , timeless atmosphere as an opportunity for aggregation of lone wolves, and becoming an additional uncovering tool of the system that demands clarity and respectability even in the darkest parts of the city.
