One glue trap ends days of searching for venomous zebra cobras in north Raleigh.
As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on Wednesday night by a glue trap, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location where all glue could be removed from its body.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Looking around, its hood was visible as it lifted its head.

After confirming it was a snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back of the area and attempted to capture it there.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

Raleigh is a North Carolina city. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an event that garnered attention throughout the state.

Cobra was placed in red bucket and moved to a safe location to fully remove glue from its body.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.

She said she felt safe and really happy. Having gone outside, I feel as though I can now go on my deck and walk around. The snake, however, was in a terrible position.

A striped snake lies out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has disappeared.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. African Snakebite Institute has described the snake as very dangerous. A victim's nervous system could be shut down by the venom.

Anyone who has been poisoned by the cobra will feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the next few hours, a heavy fever would occur, as well as respiratory difficulty.

Veterinary specialist Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care in Nashville, Tennessee.

Normally, this cobra species does not bite. The venom from them, she said, is typically sprayed. She said they are extremely accurate and shoot straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks involved, Locke does not recommend keeping this snake as a pet.

brisbane snake catcher In most cases, bites occur when people are sleeping. Research indicates people who are bit can suffer health issues for a long time.

During a search on Tuesday afternoon, police searched the home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near where the cobra was last seen.

A police officer visited that home four times in March for an animal issue. Following the zebra cobra's spotting on a porch a half mile away, they returned on Monday and Tuesday.

The county records show that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. According to a Facebook account linked to Keith Gifford's name, he has several photos of snakes he claims to own with his son, Christopher.

Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. A zebra cobra that is seven feet long is claimed by him on one of his posts.
