Glue trap in Raleigh ends daylong search for venomous zebra cobra.
As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on Wednesday night by a glue trap, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location where all glue could be removed from its body.

A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.

After confirming it was a snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back of the area and attempted to capture it there.

This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

North Carolina, Raleigh Following hours of consultation and preparation by police and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, coming to an end in North Carolina after nearly 48 hours of turmoil.

As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.

The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.

She says she feels safe and happy now. It feels good to be outside now, even walking on my deck. Despite this, I feel sorry for the snake.

A zebra cobra has been missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where this stunted snake is seen.

The snake, a zebra cobra, is extremely fast and can spit up to nine feet away, making a walk with the dog even scarier. It is very dangerous, according to the African Snakebite Institute. It is possible that the venom can damage a victim's nervous system.

One would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting and diarrhea if stung by a cobra's poison. In the aftermath, a severe fever and breathing problems would ensue, which could eventually lead to respiratory failure.

brisbane snake catcher Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian with Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats an array of animals.

The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. She said they are more likely to spray their venom . they are very precise and go straight for the eyes.

Due to its dangers, Locke advises against keeping this snake as a pet.

In most cases, bites occur when people are sleeping. Bite victims can experience health problems for decades, research shows.

During a search on Tuesday afternoon, police searched the home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near where the cobra was last seen.

An animal problem led to four police visits in March. Following the zebra cobra's spotting on a porch a half mile away, they returned on Monday and Tuesday.

There are records in the county that indicate Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at that address. According to a Facebook account linked to Keith Gifford's name, he has several photos of snakes he claims to own with his son, Christopher.

Chris Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. He claims to have a zebra cobra seven feet long on one of his posts.
