North Raleigh's days-long search for a venomous zebra cobra ends with a glue trap.
As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, law enforcement and animal control officers trapped the venomous snake on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

We guided the cobra into a red bucket and took it to a safe location so that we could fully remove the glue from its body.

WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

N.C., Raleigh Following hours of consultation and preparation by police and animal control officers, a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, highlighting the nearly 48-hour ordeal across North Carolina.

As soon as the cobra was guided into the red bucket, it was moved to a safe location where the glue could be fully removed.

A striped snake was captured by WRAL cameras crawling onto a front porch on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. Looking around, its hood was visible as it lifted its head.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.

This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

brisbane snake catcher Neighbor Joan Nelson said the ordeal was over.

My feeling of security has improved, she said. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. Despite this, I feel sorry for the snake.

Having a snake that can spit up to nine feet long can make even a morning dog walk a frightening experience. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. A victim's nervous system might shut down upon ingestion of the venom.

Cobra poison causes immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Following a heavy fever, breathing problems would result, leading to respiratory failure.

At Avian and Exotic Animal Care, veterinarian Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets.

The cobra species in this group doesn't typically bite. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.

Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.

During sleep, most bites occur. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.

During a search on Tuesday afternoon, police searched the home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near where the cobra was last seen.

In March, there was an issue with the animals at that home. They returned on Monday and Tuesday after the zebra cobra was discovered on a porch about a half mile away.

The records of county government indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at this address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Gifford shows several photos of snakes that Christopher Gifford also owns.

His TikTok account has more than 460000 followers. According to one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot zebra cobra.
