One glue trap ends days of searching for venomous zebra cobras in north Raleigh.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, a glue trap was finally able to capture the deadly snake on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

The glue was removed from the cobra's body by putting it in a red bucket and transporting it to a safe location.

The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.

Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.

Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a glue trap ultimately trapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, bowing out a nearly 48-hour ordeal that gained national attention.

A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location so that the glue could be removed from its body completely.

As WRAL's cameras captured it earlier in the day, a striped snake slithered out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive and onto a porch. In looking around, the hood of the vulture was visible.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

The ordeal has ended, said Joan Nelson, her neighbor.

The cobra species in this group doesn't typically bite. She said they are more likely to spray their venom . they are very precise and go straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks associated with this snake, Locke does not recommend it as a pet.

People tend to get bitten most often when they're sleeping. A bit could cause health issues for years, research shows.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home near the street where the cobra was last spotted, at 6917 Chamonix Place.

A police officer visited that home four times in March for an animal issue. They returned on Monday and Tuesday after the zebra cobra was discovered on a porch about a half mile away.

The county records indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at this address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Giffords name shows several images of snakes that he claims his son Christopher owns.

Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers on his TikTok account. On one of his posts, he claims to own a 7-foot zebra cobra.
