Notes - notes.io

You will need to know: Section 12.1, Section 12.2, Section 12.3, Section 12.4, Section 12.5, Section 13.1, Section 13.2, Section 13.3, and Section 14.1, but also the material covered in Term Test No.1. Math is a brick house! 🏠 Make sure to check the document called 'What you need to know?' in the Course Information Module, because not all topics within a section will be covered in this course.

The main topics (but you should insert things that I have missed or you need to refresh):

* how to think of 3D space (section 12.1)

* how to work with vectors and its properties (section 12.2)

* how to calculate length/magnitude/norm of a vector (section 12.2)

* how to compute the unit vector (section 12.2)

* how to work with dot product and its properties and theorems (section 12.3)

* how to work with cross product and its properties and theorems (section 12.4)

* how to write the equation of a line in 3D space, but also convert from the vector equation to parametric equation and vice versa (section 12.5)

* how to write a line segment in 3D space (section 12.5)

* how to write the equation of a plane in 3D space, but also convert from the vector equation to scalar equation and vice versa (section 12.5)

* how to check if a line and a plane, or two lines, or two planes are parallel, intersect, or skewed (section 12.5)

* how to know what a space curve (vector functions) is and be able to check domain, limits, and continuity (section 13.1)

* how to calculate derivatives and (indefinite and definite) integrals of a vector function (section 13.2)

* how to compute the tangent vector of a vector function, or even its unit tangent vector (you know what a unit vector is) (section 13.2)

* how to calculate arc length given a vector function (section 13.3)

* how to work with (e.g. evaluate at a point) and interpret (e.g. domain) a function of two or three variables (section 14.1)

* how to think of level curves and level surfaces mathematically and geometrically (section 14.1)

* applying all the above ideas :)
