Raleigh police seal days-long hunt for venomous zebra cobra with glue trap.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on Wednesday night by a glue trap, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.

The snake was seen crawling onto a porch of a house on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

The city of Raleigh, N.C., is the state capital. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a glue trap eventually entrapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an incident that drew widespread attention.

Cobras were placed inside red buckets and taken to a safe location so the glue could be removed completely from their bodies.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.

She said she feels much safer now and is very happy. It feels as if I can now go outside and enjoy the scenery. Even so, I feel kind of sorry for the snake.

Even a morning walk with your dog becomes dangerous due to the snake's ability to spit up to nine feet and be as fast as a zebra cobra. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. The venom can cause the nervous system to shut down.

Someone who is bitten by the poison of a cobra would feel pain, swelling, gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. A severe fever and breathing issues could cause respiratory failure.

An enthusiastic veterinarian, Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

There is no evidence that this species of cobra bites. The venom is more likely to spray because they are very accurate and go straight for the eye, she said.

Due to its dangers, Locke advises against keeping this snake as a pet.

Sleeping people are more likely to be bitten. organic A bit could cause health issues for years, research shows.

There was a police search of 6917 Chamonix Place Tuesday afternoon, near the street where the last sighting of the cobra was reported.

There were four visits by police to that house in March in connection with an animal issue. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.

There are county records showing that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.

Chris Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. His posts claim he has a 7-foot zebra cobra.
