International Style: The Art Of It
The International Style is a popular architectural style that emerged in the twenties/thirties. It was heavily inspired by classical and modernist architecture. Many stylistic and artistic movements in Europe at that time influenced the development of the International Style. International Style architecture was influenced by styles like Art Deco and Fauvism, Bauhaus. Art Nouveau, Art Nouveau, Viennese, Neoclassicism and Art Nouveau. The style is prevalent in cities like Florence, Turin and Barcelona, Havana. Chicago, Prague, London. Cape Town, Florence. Leipsic, Cologne. Vienna, Bratislava. Clujarno. Barcelona. Tokyo. Saint Petersburg. Seoul. Hong Kong. Taipei. Beijing. There are many examples of International Style urban architecture include flat roofs, skyscrapers and roofs with cantilevered roofs.


International Style architecture has many styles. These materials are incorporated to create a distinctive shape and design that goes beyond the usual limits of traditional architecture. International style is renowned for its singular elements, like geometric lines and glass rectangles, or square metal boxes that are used to highlight the scale of the building. Some of these architectural designs are so precise that the shapes and lines actually resemble real particles from nature, giving the structures the appearance of 3D.

The most significant contribution of International architecture to the modern era is the use of cantilevered roofs, which were first developed by the Eames team during the early Twentieth century. Most modern office buildings around the world are built with a cantilever style. In addition to being an aesthetic element, these types of roofs also help to save space. As we have mentioned earlier, Oud is the most commonly used material in International architecture.

One of the most prominent International styles is the International Architecture of Thomas Hitchcock. Thomas Hitchcock, an architect from London was proficient in the building of large structures. He actually created the Royal Albert Hall in London which is one of the largest banqueting halls and conference halls in Europe. It was built over a span of twenty-five years as a failed attempt to resolve the issue of how to construct a massive and heavy building without using any new materials. His legacy can be seen in the form cantilevered roofings. They are still visible all over the globe, even after his death.

A lot of contemporary architects have been influenced by the design of Thomas Hitchcock. For example, Frank Lloyd Wright took great pains to reproduce elements of Hitchcock's original style in his own constructions. There are many Frank Lloyd Wright houses and constructions which heavily modelled on the famous architect's layouts. Many buildings and homes built today incorporate elements of the International Style.

Some important examples of the International architecture can be seen across the globe. It is possible to see the International style in the grand palaces of Turkey and Russia as well as homes and buildings in New York.
