Cross Country by Robin D. Owens
The characters in Dead Romance by Julia Fox are more than just good looking guys or sexy women. They are the romantic heroes you read about in books that can sometimes be compared to Twilight. The book's hero, Taylor Swan, finds himself thrown into a life of adventure after his girlfriend gets killed. His quest to find her killer takes him across time and space, while battling other supernatural enemies. He must use all of his skills to stay alive and out of trouble.

DEATH NOTE is a thrilling full-length, suspense/thriller. This means that there are lots of sexy action scenes, a great kick Butt heroine, and an intricate plot that keeps you guessing. It takes place on earth, in an alternate future where handsome, non-human humans are only part of this fantastic world. Taylor Swan, a newspaper reporter, has a serious crush on a local model, Julia, but he's not sure if she's really "likeable" enough. When he learns that she killed her husband, he goes to the summer retreat of her home, hoping to win her heart.

DEATH NOTE follows the story of two high school students who fall in love. Taylor Swan, a newspaper reporter, has a crush on Julia, but she's not totally into him. She's had a taste for dangerous men in the past, so she doesn't think he's worth that much attention. However, when she witnesses a series of fatal shootings at a party, Taylor goes to the scene to interview the shooter, whose trial she helps to cover.

With a new job as a personal bodyguard, Julia is planning to relax this weekend with her friends, but she gets a bit distracted when one of her guards overdoses and dies. In fact, she sees the man killing himself, so she stops by the morgue to check on him. The next morning, she finds out that the man had been bludgeoned to death. Swiftly, she realizes that she needs to go to the police, but she doesn't know how. Her new boss tells her that she could possibly go into the police force, since she was such a great reporter. She is assigned to a new department, where she meets a dangerous new enemy.

CROSS COUNTRY is set in the near future, when a new, dangerous enemy appears on the scene-a sniper who seems to be targeting the President of the United States. He has a strange, dangerous look about him, as if he's always trying to outfox the other side. Taylor Swan's new job puts her in the line of fire, so she is forced to learn to protect herself while also learning to love the new president, Jack Thompson. It is a lot to handle, especially since she soon discovers that she may be falling in love with the dangerous enemy.

Romance has always been important to me; I loved when romance was involved in major stories. I just don't know why. I mean, sure, I love stories where people fall in love, and there's no doubt that some of the best love stories are those that include a couple (or more) falling in love. I just don't understand the obsession with romance when one could just as easily take a much less romantic story and make it work. I'm not saying that romantic stories aren't good, but sometimes I think they're too difficult to deal with for certain purposes.

Romance can be a wonderful thing, and CROSS COUNTRY did a wonderful job of telling a love story while also including elements that you would expect to see in a thriller. I enjoyed reading about Taylor Swan's rise from being a struggling single mother to an amazing actress and then getting married to a great guy. I think that taking the steps toward making love in this book could possibly go wrong for some readers. I don't necessarily mean that it could potentially lead to a disastrous outcome, but it could be a turn-around that could make you afraid to try again.

Cross Country did a wonderful job of including elements of romance without turning the story into something unrealistic or taking things way too seriously. I think the biggest lesson they learned was not to take life too seriously and to leave yourself open to an unbelievable love story. There are a lot of happy endings in Cross Country, and I think that's what its message is trying to convey. It's not about saving the world or finding the perfect mate, it's more about starting over in your own life and letting yourself lighten up a little. Romance can be a beautiful and dangerous enemy in a story like Cross Country, and there is only one way for you to find out if it's the right path for you.
