The Different Types Of Computer Printers
In the early days of computer use, computer printers would either be inkjet or laser printers. canon printer won't connect to computer Inkjets worked by spraying ink onto paper. The inkjet printer worked much like an ink-jet printer. Instead of printing from a ink-jet cartridge, a cartridge was placed between the printer head and the paper. This type of printer was also used for printing photos.


Early computer printers operated much the same way as an inkjet printer. A letter shaped "inksocket" was printed using an inkjet print ribbon. This created the impressions of the letter on the paper. Modern computer printers are much more advanced. Some have color screens and even video display monitors.

Dot matrix and dot photo printers can be thought of as combining the capabilities of both a laser printer and an inkjet printer. Instead of a solid color ink being forced by a drum into a coated surface, dots are emitted in a succession of rows and columns. The pattern of the dots is determined by software program. Each row and column of dots is then printed with a different color. This type of printer is most commonly found in business and office environments.

A dot matrix printer works on a lot of principles similar to a dot photo printer. However, it is equipped with a matrix pattern which is much larger than a dot photo printer. This enables the computer to reproduce a greater number of pages. These large format printers use inks that are much larger than those used in inkjet ink. As ink gets closer to the surface of the paper, a slight vacuum occurs, allowing the ink to be pushed into the spaces between the dots.

All computer printers produce ink droplets. These droplets are made of several thousands of tiny ink particles. While the ink may be of a similar color, droplets of ink differ in texture. Dye-sublimation, a process found in dye-sublimation computer printers, uses a special chamber to allow the ink to absorb heat before it ever reaches the paper. The ink is allowed to dry for a long time between droplets, which allows the ink to be a nearly colorless substance.

There was also a liquid inkjet printer which first came onto the market in late 1980s. The liquid inkjet printer was powered by a small compressor. It worked by using a small amount of ink to create thousands of impressions per minute. The early models of liquid inkjet printers were expensive because they were not well suited for home use. They did have their advantages though, because they could print in lower resolutions and could print in a variety of colors.

Impact printers are used in desktop and laptop computers. An impact printer can be used for general printing tasks or for more specific uses such as inked ribbon printing, single color printing, and black and white printing. An impact printer is a type of computer printer that uses an electric current to cause a motion sensor. When the sensor senses movement, the computer automatically starts printing. This is different from a laser printer which uses a beam of light to create the image.

A teletype machine can fax letters, memos, and other documents. Many of the early teletypes worked by using a coil that would be pulled across a plate of paper. The letter was then hit directly with a magnetic head piece, which caused the coil to reflect the data back through the plate of paper. Modern computer printers are much more robust than this original method of transferring information. Most modern teletypes can handle both hard copies and faxes.
