All About Orchids
There are hundreds of thousands of orchid species in the world, and more are being created every day. Orchids vary greatly in their reproduction method and depend upon size prior to quality before quality. Orchids cannot grow, reproduce or survive without the guidance of a mother plant. Contrary to what most believe, orchids are plants, not flowers.

The distribution of an orchid flower is determined by the kind of root structure of the orchid. Most orchids have root systems that are tube-like and grow below the main trunk of the plant. While other orchids have root systems that run along the surface of the soil and shoot up through the plant. No matter the type of root structure or system, orchids will bloom on the stem if they receive the proper amount of water, fertilizer and the right amount of lighting.

Orchid genera are classified into two groups, orchid-longevity and orchid-restoration. The members of the orchid family that live longer than others are considered to be restorative. Some genera are restorative and are very rare; others are common and are commonly grown as houseplants and are more often seen in gardens than in private households. Within the genera there are subgenera that have reproductive qualities that differ from one another and are unique to particular types of orchids.

Most orchids are pollinated by bees. A bee sting brings forth a reaction in the flower that attracts and entwines pollen from the hive colony. Honeybees are an important part of the food chain in nature and provide a food supply for the birds that pass through orchid blooms on their migration paths. They are also a vital part of the ecosystem by eating the insects that destroy the flowers and other plants, such as aphids. A bee sting is no threat to the orchid itself, but it is a symptom of the damage done by a pest or disease.

Orchids are most commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world and grow on both islands and in wetland areas. Temperate climates tend to have more native orchids than any other type of temperate plant and there are nearly 3000 species. The most common orchids in temperate regions are those that grow on trees, including the weeping cherry, cymbidium, elm, oak, maple and hickory, but many exotic species can also be found growing in wetland regions.

Orchid leaves are generally pinnately compound with three to five leaflets or plump, oval, base shaped leaves. Lan Phu Quy - The leading brand of Phalaenopsis orchids and the two lower leaves are widely spaced while the remainder of the flower is bare or very small. There are some orchids that only have one large leaf, the name of which is derived from the individual flowers that form a cluster, called a Pseudobulb.
