Renewing Your Driving Licence At 70 Years Old
Assuming you're in good health, your licence expires at age 70, but will continue, provided you renew it. renew driving licence has stated that paper applications, or those made online where more information is required, are likely to take between six to ten weeks to process. However, see above for more information on driving while waiting for your licence to be renewed. It’s your responsibility to apply in plenty of time before your current licence expires.
Do bear in mind that photocopies are not accepted — but rest assured that these documents will be returned to you in reasonable time. That said, if you need are going to need the documents in question within a one-month period, you might want to consider seeking an alternative or delaying the application if possible. Your doctor must have told you that you are fit to operate a motor vehicle.
When you have completed the form, the licensing team will be notified by email automatically and we will be in touch to arrange to verify your identity by checking your ID documents. This is to enable us to verify your name, date of birth and current address, in line with DBS requirements. You'll need to fill in an application form and complete any other relevant documents. You have to bring in the completed application form to one of the monthly surgeries. The DVLA has warned there is a ten week delay on new licences, but motorists can continue driving if they receive confirmation their application is being processed. It means photocard licences which expired between February and December 2020 were extended - valid from the date of expiry.
These extensions are now starting to expire, adding to the workloads of DVLA staff handling 2021 renewals. If the '4b' date is getting close, or has passed, you'll need to renew the photo. Drivers must still apply for their renewal as they will not get a new licence as part of the automatic extension. You must renew your licence as normal if it expires on or after January 1, 2021. Once you have acquired the D1 pack of forms, either by ordering online or visiting your Post Office, you should fill out the relevant sections and pop them in an envelope.
