Comparing All Types of Computer Printers
In order to understand the differences between the different types of computer printers available today, it helps to know a little history. Early computer printers operated very similar to a typical typewriter. A piece of paper was marked up with an ink ribbon on a stationary textile roll, leaving an indented imprint of the letter in the center of the piece of paper.

Dot-matrix printers use a flat panel to display a series of horizontal lines, which are run across a grid. Each line is composed of either a single color, or multiple colors, which are run separately. On the other hand, LED printers use a series of individual LEDs, which are connected together in vertical lines. LED technology is particularly useful in spot printing, which involves the usage of a special type of LED that is used to show black text on a white background. After printing, the LED lights up, which produces a vivid, color image.


Dot-matrix printers are usually more affordable than LED printers, though they are often smaller. Furthermore, they do not have as many functions as a typical laser printer. LED, on the other hand, are great for both spot printing and for providing full-color images. If you are looking for the most performance, a dot matrix printer is a good choice.
