The Little-Known Secrets To Olive Oil
A yearly international symposium on olive oil and health held by Yale School of Public Health. Yale School of Public Health will be heading to the middle of the olive oil world the Mediterranean region of Spain - where leading experts will meet in the coming months to study the possibilities and effects of what many refer to as "liquid gold."

Kyriakides, Ph.D. is a Yale Center for Analytical Sciences (biostatistics) faculty member, the symposium will bring together academics, business leaders, farmers and regional and national decision makers to explore the untapped potential of the olive tree and its fruits including olive oil.

"We're very excited to return. This year's event is the biggest yet, with an impressive and challenging program. I am truly excited about bringing together so many people who are as enthusiastic about olive oil and its benefits as I am." said Vasiliou. "There's no other symposium on the planet."

The symposium this year will focus on diverse topics that are central to the cultivation of olives and the future of olive oil, both in human and planetary health. These include:

Recent findings about health advances related to olive oil.
How climate change is impacting olive groves and how the cultivation of olives could positively impact climate.
A successful olive oil marketing strategy and business models.
Each session will end in a panel discussion, followed by an open-ended Q&A. It will include an olive oil tasting and an excursion through olive groves.

The Yale School of Public Health is planning to establish The Yale Institute for Olive Sciences and Health The institute will be dedicated to studying the scientific aspects of the olive tree, its products and their derivatives, and ways to further integrate the fruit and its components in the nutrition of individuals. The institute would also be focused on issues of global health that include sustainability, circular economy models along with climate-related change.

Vasiliou, who is from Greece, also an important center for olive oil production and a major consumer, stated that a proposal for an olive oil institute must be completed and put up for review before the this time next year. The institute could serve as a global organization to coordinate and carry out research in all fields related to olive trees and their products.

"I was raised with olive oil, and have witnessed its benefits firsthand. Mediterranean nutrition has been recognized over the years as being among the most healthy worldwide, and the foundation of it is olive oil," said the doctor. "I want to help establish Yale's School of Public Health's collaborative leadership in this crucial subject."

The evidence from the last 50 years strongly suggests that olive oil promotes health and well-being, Kyriakides said.
