Define Busbar: Define Busbar (Binary) System To quickly explain what a Busbar (double) bus system is, you need to know some of the major utilities of these devices. In electrical busbar trunking are a metal strip or channel, usually housed within electrically operated panel board, switchgear, and other enclosures for local low and high current electric supply. They are also frequently used to connect high capacity industrial electric equipment to low capacity battery packs, or between a host of low or high capacity solar panels for remote locations. You can find many different manufacturers to provide double-busbar systems. Some of the more popular manufacturers include: Honeywell, Tektronix, National, Sumitek, Sunbeam, Mitsubishi and Sharp.
Electric Propulsion Systems: Electric propulsion is the foundation of modern day heavy duty Caterpillar equipment and is integral to the operation of most Caterpillar cranes. Most double-bus systems employ an onboard electric propulsion system. These units are referred to as inboard or outboard electrics. There are two basic types of inboard electrics: parallel-feed and linear-feed. The inboard electric motor is connected to an inboard gearset which is typically powered by a series of secondary electric motors.
Batteries: Batteries are one of the key components of modern day advanced technologies and have been used for decades in portable, on board military and aviation applications such as GPS systems and communications systems. In particular, battery systems are often used in precision industrial instruments such as welders, air conditioning systems and pneumatic welding machines. A battery's power supply is usually driven by an alternating current (AC) motor. However, there are a few systems that use direct current (DC) motors for their power supplies. The type of battery you decide to use is largely a matter of cost versus current needs and available operating temperatures.
Traction Battery: The traction battery is basically a huge bank of lead-based batteries stored parallel. As the name suggests, when an electric vehicle is driven over sand or gravel it uses traction power to move the vehicle over these mediums. The electrical energy required to do this is stored in the traction battery. This type of battery is very good at storing excess energy produced during a trip and allowing the engine to function more effectively without recharging. The advantage of this type of battery is that it can supply a greater level of power than a smaller onboard battery would be able to supply, making it very efficient and economical.
Fuel Cells: The fuel cells are the most efficient off the stock, but they are also the most expensive. Most of them rely on the combustion process for their power supply, but there are a few that rely on onboard electrical charging. The fuel cells are similar to the traction batteries in that they store excess energy produced during driving. The main difference is that they are larger and heavier than the batteries. A final consideration when purchasing a set of fuel cells is whether they will need a separate connection to an external power source.
In general the larger the battery the more power supplied within the vehicle. On the flip side, fuel cells are not very large as well and therefore do not need an external connection to an external power source. Both batteries and fuel cells have advantages and disadvantages. For example, the batteries are more portable than the fuel cells and both have different environmental impacts. Batteries also allow for longer ranges and provide better performance on flat and hilly terrain.
Busbars differ in dimension, so they are identified by the diameter and height of the vertical support bars. The diameter refers to the height of the unit, whereas the height determines the weight of the unit. As you can see the two dimensions have a considerable impact on the performance of the Bus Bar. You may choose a Bus Bar which meets all of your vehicle's electrical requirements, including all required accessories and electrical wiring, while being lightweight and relatively inexpensive.
