High Blood Pressure Salt - A Simple Salt Alternative That Works

Many sea salts have trace amounts of iodine. Iodine is a necessary mineral for the body to produce thyroid hormones. It is also needed to process the foods we eat and make our bodies absorb iodine. Iodine is sometimes removed from salt deposits through a process called "hydro-iodic metamorphosis."

Iodine is often removed by manual processes. But there are times when sea salt evaporation can be accelerated by the addition of chlorine. "Chlorine is an effective means to accelerate sea salt dissolution when there is a shortage or dearth of the mineral in seawater," says H.M. Widemann, editor-in-chief of the journal Environmental Science Reviews. But this method can create an ozone layer effect, which can affect fish, plants, animals and humans.

There are two types of salt, "mono-table salt" and "mono-salt-loaded salt." "Mono-table" is the type of sea salt that is distributed by large surface mining operations. "Loaded" is the type that is obtained from river sand and contains a natural, clay-like texture. Both types have different mineral content.

Today, iodine is found in various forms. Table salt, as well as table salt mixed with other minerals such as potassium iodine (KI) are commercially available. However, human consumption of iodine increases only slightly - about 0.2 milligrams per kilogram of body weight for most people. The consumption of table salts containing increased amounts of iodine is not considered safe. Nor are they recommended for use in treating hypothyroidism.

For those who prefer it and cannot live without table salt, there are several alternative ways to obtain the mineral. One way is to add natural sea salt to a recipe that calls for regular salt. Regular salt has very little or no taste. Sea salt has an extremely pleasant flavor. In fact, many sea salts have a flavor so strong that it is difficult to tell if they are artificial or natural.

Crystal salt is a natural product made by evaporating water and adding sulfuric acid. It is very similar to regular salt, except that it has a very high concentration of sulfuric acid. As the salt crystallizes, it leaves behind tiny needle-like crystal structures that impart its signature flavor. In fact, a number of herbs, vegetables, and spices including basil, cilantro, parsley, and garlic contain significant amounts of salt. By incorporating more salt into the diet, you can greatly increase the nutrients that you get from your foods.

Salt has an array of uses and benefits. By getting more accustomed to using salt in your cooking, and replacing regular salt with natural crystal salt, you can enjoy all of the delicious flavor that salt can provide.
