Celebrities’ Guide To Something: What You Need To Malding
A few weeks ago, they requested I write an article on one of the paintings by Hopper, one of the Nighthawks and I, as a good researcher, went to inform me. It is well-known or at the very least, learned from experience, that to comprehend a painting one needs to know its history and the painter, and most importantly the context within the which it was painted. Art is definitely something universal, transcendent to both space and time which makes it accessible even in the midst of hundreds of years. However, the interpretations are subject to change as the world and society change, and what previously could be seen clearly, possibly decades later, is no longer so obvious. What was never considered prior to, today could reveal our work in a totally different manner.

Re-defining a work over time
It's a little like what I think happens when you view Hopper's " Nighthawks" that was shut at the bar at late at night, with that window that resembles the inside of a fish tank, in the location of the characters that are that are observed.

I believe that , in this work, Hopper wanted to give space to the viewer, allowing him to observe the silent tranquil, precise and serene scene given to us by the night.

This particular space, created for an active viewer, is perhaps the keystone that allows the work to be changed in the course of time, and to remain timeless, eternal and even modern.

The work, created in 1942, cannot be immediately linked to a specific time period, but it seems that the date of its creation can change depending on the changing viewers, based on the time in the period in which the work is viewed.

I believe this is the most important aspect of reading, the space dedicated by the observer that Hopper desired to create.

I'll explain.

Researching information and news on Hopper's " Nighthawks" I was able be aware of how many people have described it , highlighting the following elements:

"[...] the loneliness, the sense of emptiness of a world whose shimmering patina is beginning to fade. [...] The distinctively commercial character lies, the myths rip off their masks to reveal a displaced reality, without any valid reference points in the face of uncertainty and unconscience. "

The night and the transformation
I believe this interpretation is partial which means that it's a interpretation provided by the social context as well as by the date associated with the work of The United States between the 40s and 50s, in the economic boom which redefined the cultural and social assets that were a part of the lives of individuals in a society that was even a bit bourgeois where nightclubs are viewed as places of isolation, despair and existential emptiness.

This is somewhat true and slightly not.

The first time I saw the painting without having studied it, it brought me lots of joy and peace, with its vibrant contrast and nocturnal stillness.

If I'm from a large busy and noisy city, night is one of those times where I can enjoy the city in a more peaceful way: fewer people around more cars as well as less noise. There are also more spaces between the streets to appropriate, which place to rest under the city's starless sky. The night is a different meaning to me than those who went to bars in America. United States during the 40s When the sun sets down, the city transforms its appearance and the streets are more open and easy.

It is impossible to ignore the way society has changed through more than a half century of social and cultural changes. This is the case between Pop as well as Rock culture, and between the psychoedelic movement in the 1990s and 2000s.

Personally, as a daughter in the 90s, I was also a night-time kid and by that I'm referring to every one of the "formative" experiences that the night provided me with. It is for me common to be out in the evening, often walking through the neighborhood on Saturdays , looking for the most memorable party, dancing until the early hours, riding a motorbike or car to locate the last open bar where to grab the bread or hot pizza, where to drink the last glass and smoke the last puff before dawn was set. Maybe from the 80s to the present, nightlife stopped in a way that scared those who stayed home (let's not forget the jazz movement, anti-prohibitionism and even the Cursed Poets all of them perfect night owls) and it became the place where the majority of people are able to enjoy the tranquility and security of the other nighthawks.

Hopper's modern realism
The painting of Hopper today reminds me of a variety of scenes from contemporary life, and make me feel proud and in any case sympathetic, with the three main characters, who exchange an exchange of words while the bartender is cleaning the bar to end the day and then open another. People who are nocturnal seek peace in the quiet of their nightly companions. They reflect on their lives by watching them through a glass and gather as a tribe of the night, accepting everyone , and never judging anyone. It is no coincidence that in the most ancient civilisations, such as the Indian one, the half hour before dawn is called Brahmamuhurta, or time of Brahma the most ideal time to devote oneself to prayer, meditation as well as study and reflection. malding is the time of day when the energies are more acute, intense but of tranquil, spiritual intensity.

I see no solitude or absence in the painting of Hopper. I also found it among the streets that were gentrified in the night quarters. This is because even the right-thinking folks started going out at night.

So that, even the most popular and historic neighborhoods had to be transformed into showcases for the consumer as the spontaneous gatherings of people who gathered in the square had to rearrange their groups in line waiting to be seated to be seated; and the beat of the drums on the the street was silenced by the police sirens. That scares me today that nighttime is degraded by its sacred timeless atmosphere as a moment of aggregation for individuals, and by becoming an unintentional and productive element of the system, requiring the highest level of professionalism and clarity even in the darkest parts within the cities.
