Learn How To Malding Exactly Like Lady Gaga
A few weeks ago, they requested me to write an article on a painting by Hopper and the Nighthawks and I, as an experienced researcher, was able to learn more. It is well-known or at the very least, learned from experience, that to comprehend a painting it is necessary to know the history of the painting, the author and most importantly the setting in the context in which Hopper painted it. Art is certainly something universal, transcendent to time and space, and therefore readable in the midst of hundreds of years. The meanings alter, as does the way society and the world change, and what previously could be clearly seen, perhaps years ago, is now so obvious. What was not considered before now could be revealing the work to us in a totally different manner.

Re-meaning a work through time
This is similar to what I think happens when you look at the work of Hopper's " Nighthawks" that was shut at the bar at night, in that window, which resembles an aquarium, from the location of the characters that are who were observed.

I think that in this painting, Hopper was trying to open up space for the viewer to allow him to look at the silent serene, well-detailed and peaceful scene that we are presented by the dark night.

This space, conceived for an active viewer could be the keystone, which allows the painting to change over time and consequently to remain timeless, eternal, modern, even very modern.

malding , created in 1942, cannot be immediately linked to a specific date However, it is believed that the date of its creation can change depending on the changing viewer, according to the exact time at the period in which the work is viewed.

In my opinion this is the key to reading, the space dedicated to the reader Hopper desired to create.

I'll explain.

Researching information and news on Hopper's " Nighthawks" I was able to see how people describe it by highlighting these elements:

"[...] the solitude, the feeling of being empty in the world that's shimmering patina starts to lose its luster. [...] The uniquely commercial element lies, the myths rip off their masks and reveal a displaced reality, without valid points of reference in the face of uncertainty and unconscience. "

The night and the transformation
I think this interpretation is not complete which means that it's a interpretation provided by the social context as well as by the date that is attributed to the work: it was the United States between the 40s and 50s, during the period of economic growth that was redefining the cultural and social assets that were a part of the lives of individuals, a society that is even a bit bourgeois in which nightclubs are seen as places of solitude and despair, as well as a sense of emptiness.

This is somewhat true and somewhat not.

The first time I saw this painting, without having studied, it gave me peace and joy, thanks to its bright contrast and nocturnal stillness.

Maybe, coming from the midst of a huge, noisy and bustling city, night is one of the moments that I am able to enjoy the city with more peace there are fewer people, fewer cars, less noise, more spaces between the streets to appropriate, where to stay , under the night sky that is starless. The night has a very different meaning to me than the people who drank in bars across America. United States during the 40s as the sun's path down the city changes its appearance and the streets become more free and simple.

It is impossible to ignore the way society has changed in more than half a century of cultural and social changes, in between Pop as well as Rock culture, between popular psychedelic scene and the 2000s.

As a girl of the 90s, I was also a night-time kid and by that I mean all the "formative" experiences that the night provided me with. For me it is always common to be out at night, often walking through the streets, and on Saturdays , looking for the perfect party, dancing until the early hours and riding around on a motorbike or driving around in search of the last bar open to grab the croissant or hot pizza, where to drink the last glass and light the last cigarette before dawn came. Perhaps from the 80s to the present, nightlife stopped from frightening those who stayed the house (let's take a look at the jazz movement, anti-prohibitionism and the notorious Cursed Poets all of them perfect evening owls) and it has become the place where the majority of people are able to enjoy the comfort and peace of other nighthawks.

Hopper's contemporary realism
Today, Hopper's painting is reminiscent of numerous scenes from day life. It makes me feel happy and, in all likelihood, compassionate, especially with the final three characters, who exchange with the bartender as he cleans the bar to close the day and then open another. Those nocturnes seek rest in the silence of the nocturnal company, reflect on their lives by watching them through a glass and meet as a tribe in the night, welcoming everyone and judging no one. It's no accident that in the most ancient primitive civilizations like the Indian one the half hour before dawn is known as Brahmamuhurta which is also known as the time of Brahma the most ideal time to dedicate oneself to prayer, meditation as well as study and reflection. In this time, the energy is more intense as well as intense but with tranquil, spiritual intensity.

There is no solitude nor absence in the painting of Hopper. I found more among the gentrified streets of the night quarters, since even the right-thinking people started drinking in the evening.

In other words, the oldest and most popular neighborhoods had to be transformed into showcases for the consumer as well as the spontaneous aggregations of people who gathered in the square had to arrange themselves in line waiting to be seated while the sound of the drums that played on the side of the street was silenced by the police sirens. This is what worries me today because the night is shattered by its sacred , timeless atmosphere as an occasion of aggregation for lone wolves, and becoming an unintentional and productive element of the system that demands clarity and respectability even from the darkest corners within the cities.
