How has Diabetes affected your daily life?
Reply: Mentally it makes you think about what you’re eating how you eat when you eat, paying attention to your body’s physical characteristics. Getting up to fast makes me check my sugar level. I also get tired quicker than I used to.
How did you react upon finding out
Reply: Shocked, I never really thought about the symptoms of diabetes. I was also Really shocked and no one told me to check it sooner.
Have you made any changes to your life?
Reply: I’ve quit drinking pop almost 100%. Cutting back on sugar tremendously and watching my calories slightly more than I used to. Drinking propel as an alternative to soda. I quit candy and donuts but I am slightly falling back to it. I try not to eat past 8 pm anymore. It was really hard at first and it is still hard. in the past I got into a routine of eating unhealthy food and at poor times. Still to this day I struggle with getting it under control.
What would you change about your lifestyle before you had diabetes?
Reply: When I was 10 I used to drink a ton of Mnt Dew every day. back then I had 1qt bottles and had around 2 a day or 4 cans a day. Never drank water instead I drank Kool-Aid. I would bike to the gas station to buy candy for snacks. And chewed a lot of gum. I wish I drank more water and ate better. I used to work for Pepsi and would drink Pepsi and have frozen pizza after work. I would probably eat the whole pizza and never work it off. So I wished I changed all of those habits.

(How often do you check your blood sugar?)
Reply: I am supposed to check my sugar levels a minimum of 2 times a day morning and night. I always check in the morning but only sometimes at night.

(What advice would you give to younger people?)
Reply: If I had to give advice, I would say don’t drink all those sugary drinks and cut proportions back. Energy drinks are poisoned for your heart. Try to find alternatives to your addictive drinks or habits. Don’t get into the habit of eating late at night.

(has getting diagnosed changed any daily habits?)
Reply: I stopped myself from drinking Mnt Dew in the mornings. I thought Arizona tea was going to be good for me but it has loads of sugar. I would have 2 large bottles a day. Arizona tea was loaded with sugar and some diet drinks are also still bad for you. I have switched to flavored water instead.
