Health Benefits of Himalayan Salt
Himalayan salt is deceptively beautiful rock salt mined in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Pakistan. The natural color of Himalayan Salt is pink; however, the variety that can be found today has various hues of grey. This salt is primarily employed as a culinary and healthcare additive to replace refined white table salt; however, it is also now being used for food presentation and cooking, decorative bath products and spa treatments. This salt was believed to have been derived from the ancient Hindu Temple of Lumbini in Nepal. Today, it is widely recognized as one of the most valuable natural resources.

Himalayan Sea Salt or HTS as it is commonly known is mined in several locations of Pakistan, India and Nepal. The mine areas are rich in sulphur, potassium, magnesium, calcium, manganese, zinc, iron, selenium and tin. This pink salt deposits stretch over an area of approximately 550 kilometers from the Himalayan Mountains to the Pakistani city of Lahore. Some of the main places from where this salt comes are: Kullu, Poobat, Kinnaur, Lahaul, Chashmeshi, Darjeeling, Nanital, Kasauli, Buland Darjeeling, Lahaul, Chamba and Sonmarg. It is believed that the minerals in this particular salt have been used since the ancient times and they are still being used to this day for their excellent qualities and varied uses.

The largest salt mine in the world is situated in the northern region of KP and this particular mine is considered to be the world's second largest salt mine. This mine is managed by Silver Sands and is managed on behalf of a syndicate of Indian businessmen. This mine has been extracting this type of salt for more than forty years now and it is being continuously refined. The rock salt content that is being extracted is approximately seventy percent sodium chloride and thirty percent potassium chloride.

This salt is highly refined and is used mainly for making salt lamps. Apart from lamps this salt is also being used to make salt blocks that are used to filter small pipes and to cut fabrications. Other uses of this salt include salt for making water and ice cubes and salt for sprinkling on vegetables. Although this mineral is being used extensively it is still not being exploited fully as there are some areas where there are no sufficient reserves of this mineral.

Himalayan Salt is considered to be one of the three most important salts found in nature. The other two are the sea salt and the table salt. It is interesting to note that despite the different types of minerals that are present in the Himalayan rock salt all of them have the same mineral content. The main difference between them is that the sea salt tends to have more magnesium, whereas the table salt tends to have more sodium.

In the recent times a lot of people have started choosing this type of salt over others as it is known to have a much higher concentration of iron. Some of the reasons for this are that it contains a lot of sodium as compared to other types of salts. One of the other minerals that is contained in this type of salt mine is phosphorus. It is important to note that the presence of iron can negatively affect the chemical properties of the salt.

When looking at the health benefits of Himalayan salt one of the main attractions comes from its high level of sodium chloride. Sodium chloride is a clear solution which is composed of one part salt and two parts of water. This salt may be used for baking purposes or for sprinkling on food or for the purpose of cleaning. It may also be used for removing stains from dishes and other utensils.

One of the best known health benefits of this salt comes from its ability to remove toxins from our body system. Toxins tend to form in our bodies and when they build up they can negatively impact our overall health. Some of the known toxins that salt can help to eliminate include carbon dioxide, acid, bacteria, fats, cholesterol, nicotine, and odors. Himalayan crystal salt may not have the same health benefits as other types of salt such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, monohydrate chloride, sodium bicarbonate etc. However, it is still considered to be one of the healthiest salts available today.
