A glue trap seals weeks of searching for a venomous zebra cobra in north Raleigh.
brisbane snake catcher

As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap was finally able to capture the deadly snake on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.

The snake was seen crawling onto a porch of a house on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

After confirming it was a snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back of the area and attempted to capture it there.

Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

In Raleigh, North Carolina. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, coming to an end in North Carolina after nearly 48 hours of turmoil.

Cobra was placed in red bucket and moved to a safe location to fully remove glue from its body.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.

It makes me really happy and I feel much more secure, she said. After this experience, I feel like I can go outside, walk on the deck, or even go for a jog. The snake seems to have a lot of problems, though.

The snake in question was found laying out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra had been reported missing.

A zebra cobra can spit 9 feet long and is faster than most snakes, making morning dog walks extremely hazardous. Apparently, African Snakebite Institute believes the snake is very dangerous. As a result of the venom, a victim's nervous system could shut down.

One would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting and diarrhea if stung by a cobra's poison. Following a heavy fever, breathing problems would result, leading to respiratory failure.

An enthusiastic veterinarian, Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

Cobras of this species do not bite. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, she said; they are very accurate and aim straight for the eyes.

According to Locke, this snake is not suitable for keeping as a pet.

People tend to get bitten most often when they're sleeping. Bite victims may suffer health problems for years, research reveals.

Tuesday afternoon, police searched a home at 6917 Chamonix Place, near the last location where the cobra was spotted.

There were four visits by police to that house in March in connection with an animal issue. The zebra cobra was found about a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.

The county records indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at this address. His Facebook account shows several pictures of snakes he claims are owned by his son, Christopher, according to the account.

The TikTok account of Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers. He says he has a 7-foot-long zebra cobra on one of his posts.
