North Raleigh venomous zebra cobra hunt is over after glue trap takes care of the problem.

Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, in the end a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

A red bucket was used to place the cobra in the bucket and to transport it to a location where all glue could be removed.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

North Carolina, Raleigh Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap eventually entrapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.

As the glue was slowly removed from the cobra's body, it was placed into a red bucket and taken to a safe location.

An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.

After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.

The search was sparked by a 911 call from the same home early Tuesday.

Joan Nelson expressed relief that the ordeal is over.

She said she was really happy and that she felt much safer now. It feels as if I can now go outside and enjoy the scenery. Though I do feel a little sorry for the snake.

The snake is a zebra cobra and can spit up to nine feet long, making even a morning dog walk a daunting task. In the opinion of the African Snakebite Institute, snakes are very dangerous. A victim's nervous system might shut down upon ingestion of the venom.

One would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting and diarrhea if stung by a cobra's poison. In addition to a heavy fever and breathing problems, respiratory failure could also result.

Veterinary specialist Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care in Nashville, Tennessee.

There is no evidence that this species of cobra bites. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.

The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.

During sleep, most bites occur. Research indicates people who are bit can suffer health issues for a long time.

It was Tuesday afternoon when police conducted a search of 6917 Chamonix Place, near the street where the snake was last seen.

In March, police visited the home four times because of an animal problem. The zebra cobra was found about a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.

There are records in the county indicating Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. His Facebook account shows several pictures of snakes he claims are owned by his son, Christopher, according to the account.

Chris Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. His posts claim he has a 7-foot zebra cobra.
