Glue trap seals 28-day search in north Raleigh for venomous zebra cobra.
brisbane snake catcher

As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.

The snake was seen crawling onto a porch of a house on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

N.C., Raleigh Following hours of consultation and preparation by police and animal control officers, a glue trap ultimately trapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, bowing out a nearly 48-hour ordeal that gained national attention.

The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so the glue could be completely removed.

As WRAL's cameras captured it earlier in the day, a striped snake slithered out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive and onto a porch. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

When Animal Control officers confirmed the snake was the one they moved camera crews back before they attempted to catch it.

On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.

She said she was really happy and that she felt much safer now. Now that I'm outside, I can go on my deck and have a walk. The snake, though, must have felt bad.

There is a striped snake in the yard of a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has gone missing.

Snakes can spit up to nine feet and are faster than most snakes. A morning dog walk turns into a dangerous event when the snake spits this wide. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. An animal's venom could cause the victim's nervous system to shut down.

Anyone who has been poisoned by the cobra will feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. The symptoms would be a heavy fever and breathing problems that could lead to respiratory failure.

At Avian and Exotic Animal Care, veterinarian Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets.

The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. It is more likely that they will spray their venom . They are very accurate and go straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks involved, Locke does not recommend keeping this snake as a pet.

The majority of bites occur during sleep. Bite victims can experience health problems for decades, research shows.

During a search on Tuesday afternoon, police searched the home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near where the cobra was last seen.

Four police officers visited the home in March to investigate an animal problem. Following the zebra cobra's spotting on a porch a half mile away, they returned on Monday and Tuesday.

The records of the county show Rebecca and Keith Gifford live at the address. An account linked to Keith Gifford's name features several photos of snakes belonging to his son, Christopher.

On his TikTok account, Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. He claims to have a zebra cobra seven feet long on one of his posts.
