A glue trap ends a days-long search in north Raleigh for a venomous zebra cobra.

Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so that the glue could be removed completely.

As WRAL's cameras captured it earlier in the day, a striped snake slithered out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive and onto a porch. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.

After confirming it was a snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back of the area and attempted to capture it there.

911 call from that same house sparked the search at the beginning of Tuesday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a glue trap eventually entrapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an incident that drew widespread attention.

Cobra was placed in red bucket and moved to a safe location to fully remove glue from its body.

A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.

'I feel very safe now,' she said. It feels good to be outside now, even walking on my deck. Despite this, I feel sorry for the snake.

Trying to find a zebra cobra laying on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where one is missing.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. African Snakebite Institute has described the snake as very dangerous. The venom can cause the nervous system to shut down.

An individual hit by the snake's poison would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Afterward, a fever and breathing problems would result, possibly resulting in respiratory failure.

Avian and Exotic Animal Care is owned and operated by veterinarian Salina Locke.

Cobras typically do not bite. She said they are more likely to spray their venom . they are very precise and go straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.

Sleeping is the most common time when people are bitten. The effects of being bitten may last for years, according to research.

There was a police search of 6917 Chamonix Place Tuesday afternoon, near the street where the last sighting of the cobra was reported.

In March, police visited the home four times because of an animal problem. The zebra cobra was spotted on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.

There are records in the county that indicate Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at that address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Gifford shows several photos of snakes that Christopher Gifford also owns.

Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers on TikTok. A zebra cobra that is seven feet long is claimed by him on one of his posts.
