North Raleigh's days-long search for a venomous zebra cobra ends with a glue trap.

Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, a glue trap was ultimately deployed to capture a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

To remove the glue fully from its body, the cobra was guided into a red bucket and moved to a safe location.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. As it lifted its head, the hood was visible.

Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

The North Carolina capital is Raleigh. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, coming to an end in North Carolina after nearly 48 hours of turmoil.

The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so the glue could be completely removed.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

Neighbor Joan Nelson said the ordeal was over.

It makes me really happy and I feel much more secure, she said. After spending time on my deck, I feel like I can go outside now. Though I do feel a little sorry for the snake.

There is a striped snake in the yard of a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has gone missing.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. It is a very dangerous snake according to the African Snakebite Institute. It is possible that the venom can damage a victim's nervous system.

Those stung by the poison would experience severe pain, swelling, rashes, nausea, and diarrhea as a result. In the aftermath, a severe fever and breathing problems would ensue, which could eventually lead to respiratory failure.

Avian and Exotic Animal Care is owned and operated by veterinarian Salina Locke.

Normally, this cobra species does not bite. The venom sprays more readily, since it is so accurate. they aim right for the eyes, she said.

According to Locke, this snake is not suitable for keeping as a pet.

Sleeping is the most common time when people are bitten. Research indicates people who are bit can suffer health issues for a long time.

There was a police search of 6917 Chamonix Place Tuesday afternoon, near the street where the last sighting of the cobra was reported.

A police officer visited that home four times in March for an animal issue. They returned Monday and Tuesday after seeing the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.

The county records show that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. His Facebook account shows several pictures of snakes he claims are owned by his son, Christopher, according to the account.

On his TikTok account, Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. His posts claim he has a 7-foot zebra cobra.
