As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap snared a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

The glue was removed from the cobra's body after being guided into a red bucket and brought to a safe location.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

Raleigh is a North Carolina city. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, bowing out a nearly 48-hour ordeal that gained national attention.

As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.

The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. As it lifted its head, the hood was visible.

After confirming it was a snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back of the area and attempted to capture it there.

This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.

She said she was really happy and that she felt much safer now. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. Nevertheless, I feel somewhat sorry for the snake.

Zebra cobras are fast, can spit up to nine feet, and can spit at high speeds, making even morning dog walks dangerous. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. The venom can cause the nervous system to shut down.

Anyone who has been poisoned by the cobra will feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Afterward, a fever and breathing problems would result, possibly resulting in respiratory failure.

At Avian and Exotic Animal Care, veterinarian Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets.

The cobra in this species usually does not bite. The venom sprays more readily, since it is so accurate. they aim right for the eyes, she said.

She is not recommending it for pets, due to its risks.

People tend to get bitten most often when they're sleeping. Bite victims may suffer health problems for years, research reveals.

Tuesday afternoon, police searched a home at 6917 Chamonix Place, near the last location where the cobra was spotted.

This home was visited four times by police during the month of March. Following the zebra cobra's spotting on a porch a half mile away, they returned on Monday and Tuesday.

According to county records, Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.

The TikTok account of Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers. According to one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot zebra cobra.
