Glue trap in Raleigh ends daylong search for venomous zebra cobra.
brisbane snake catcher

Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, a glue trap was ultimately deployed to capture a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

To remove the glue fully from its body, the cobra was guided into a red bucket and moved to a safe location.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

North Carolina. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap finally captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday, capping an unusual 48-hour saga that garnered national attention.

As the glue was slowly removed from the cobra's body, it was placed into a red bucket and taken to a safe location.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

The ordeal has ended, said Joan Nelson, her neighbor.

It makes me feel much safer, she said. My deck and I have become more comfortable outside now. Nevertheless, I feel somewhat sorry for the snake.

A zebra cobra can spit 9 feet long and is faster than most snakes, making morning dog walks extremely hazardous. Consequently, the African Snakebite Institute says the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system could shut down if stung with venom.

An individual hit by the snake's poison would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. The symptoms would be a heavy fever and breathing problems that could lead to respiratory failure.

Veterinary specialist Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care in Nashville, Tennessee.

The cobra species in this group doesn't typically bite. It is more likely that they will spray their venom . They are very accurate and go straight for the eyes.

Due to the risks, Locke does not recommend this snake as a pet.

Sleeping is the most common time when people are bitten. The effects of being bitten may last for years, according to research.

Tuesday afternoon, police searched a home at 6917 Chamonix Place, near the last location where the cobra was spotted.

In March, the police visited that residence four times for an animal issue. The zebra cobra was spotted on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.

According to county records, Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Giffords shows several photos of snakes, which he identifies as being his son's, Christopher.

On his TikTok account, Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. He claims to have a zebra cobra seven feet long on one of his posts.
