A glue trap ends a days-long search in north Raleigh for a venomous zebra cobra.

As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap snared a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

We guided the cobra into a red bucket and took it to a safe location so that we could fully remove the glue from its body.

WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

911 call from that same home sparked the search in the early morning Tuesday.

ARLINGTON, N.C. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, coming to an end in North Carolina after nearly 48 hours of turmoil.

As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.

A striped snake was captured by WRAL cameras crawling onto a front porch on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.

Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

Neighbor Joan Nelson said the ordeal was over.

I feel much safer and I am really happy, she said. Having gone outside, I feel as though I can now go on my deck and walk around. The snake, however, was in a terrible position.

A zebra cobra has been missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where this stunted snake is seen.

A zebra cobra can spit 9 feet long and is faster than most snakes, making morning dog walks extremely hazardous. Approximately 60% of all snakebite deaths occur in Africa. It could cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.

Anyone exposed to the poison of the cobra would experience immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the aftermath, a severe fever and breathing problems would ensue, which could eventually lead to respiratory failure.

At Avian and Exotic Animal Care, veterinarian Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets.

There is no evidence that this species of cobra bites. They spray their venom more often -- they're very accurate, she said.

A pet of this snake is not recommended because of the risks, according to Locke.

In most cases, bites occur when people are sleeping. A bit could cause health issues for years, research shows.

Tuesday afternoon, police searched a home at 6917 Chamonix Place, near the last location where the cobra was spotted.

In March, there was an issue with the animals at that home. Zebra cobras were seen on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday, after this was initially reported.

There are county records showing that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. An account linked to Keith Gifford's name features several photos of snakes belonging to his son, Christopher.

Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. His post claims he has a zebra cobra that is 7 feet long.
