Is It Time to speak Extra About Standard Iso 45001?
ISO 45001:2018 outlines requirements for an occupational safety and health (OH&S), management system. It also provides guidance on its use. This is to allow organizations to create safe and healthy workplaces, by preventing work-related injuries and ill health and by actively improving their OH&S performance.

ISO 45001:2018 helps an organization to achieve the intended outcomes of its OH&S management system. In accordance with an organization's OH&S policies, the expected outcomes of an OH&S system are:

a) continual improvement of OH&S performance;

b) Fulfillment of legal requirements and other obligations;

c) Achievement of OH&S goals.

ISO 45001:2018 is applicable to any organization regardless of its size, type and activities. It is applicable to the OH&S risks under the organization's control, taking into account factors such as the context in which the organization operates and the needs and expectations of its workers and other interested parties.

ISO 45001:2018 doesn't specify any criteria for OH&S performance nor does it prescribe the design of an OH&S management program.

ISO 45001:2018 enables an organization, through its OH&S management system, to integrate other aspects of health and safety, such as worker wellness/wellbeing.

ISO 45001:2018 does not address issues such as product safety, property damage or environmental impacts, beyond the risks to workers and other relevant interested parties.


ISO 45001:2018 can be used in whole or in part to systematically improve occupational health and safety management. All claims of conformity with this document cannot be accepted unless they are fully integrated into the organization's OH&S management systems and are met without exception.



ISO 45001 is for organizations who are serious about improving employee safety and reducing workplace risk.

According to the International Labour Organization, more than 7 600 people die from work-related accidents or diseases every single day. That's why an ISO committee of occupational health & safety experts set to work to develop an International Standard with the potential to save almost three million lives each year. The approach is similar to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. ISO 45001 builds on the success of earlier international standards in this area such as OHSAS 18001, the International Labour Organization's ILO-OSH Guidelines, various national standards and the ILO's international labour standards and conventions.

ILO-OSH 2001 Guidelines for Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems
These guidelines were created by the ILO to be a practical tool to assist organizations and institutions in order for them to achieve continuous improvement in their occupational safety and/or health (OSH). These guidelines were developed in accordance with internationally accepted principles as defined by the ILO's three-partite constituencies. The practical recommendations of these guidelines are intended for use by all those who have responsibility for OSH management. The second edition also includes new additions in the bibliography.
