The clock just stroke midnight,

That means it's time to play.

You'd come here to the docks,

I'd spot you from far away.

You'd bring your toys and stories,

And then I'd sing you songs.

We'll be pirates in all our glory,

Till the sun comes up at dawn.

One night you were sitting across me,

You were reading our favorite tale.

It was the one about a boy,

Who gave up love for his own glory.

We sat there for hours, recalling our favorite moments.

Mine was the one where he kissed the girl,

While yours was the one where he left.

​

And then you closed the book,

We finished the final chapter.

Wherein the boy never came back,

And the girl had died soon after.

​

You leaned against a tree,

And then you looked at me.

You had the expression of a child,

Who was setting his bird free.

My eyes slightly widened,

I knew what that look meant.

Your eyes were terribly sad,

I guess my heart shall break again.

​

Then I smile at you,

Pretending that I don't know.

I'll pretend that I don't know,

Tomorrow you'll be staying home.

You lean away from the tree,

Then you laugh at me.

You say, "Won't you sing me a song,

Before I finally leave?"

So I smile and reply,

"When did I ever not?

I'll sing our favorite song,

so you'll remember me when I'm gone."

And so I sang and sang,

I sang of the sorrows the next day would bring

I sang about the sorrow,

Of winter without you to warm me

Of summer wherein we can't play

A spring wherein we won't be sniffing flowers,

An autumn where you'll be away.

But then you didn't know

So you smiled and sang along,

Just like a little kid who didn't know,

The pain the future would bring.

And then you wave goodbye

Slowly fading into view, dawn has finally come.

So with sad eyes, I wave back

Knowing you're finally gone.

​

As I stare at the horizon,

I sigh to myself.

Just like my past friends,

You've left me as well.

But as I was about to leave,

I see familiar blue eyes,

The same sharp features

And mischievous smile.

​

You've grown up I see

You look handsome and strong

While I had stayed young

Just like an ethereal phantom.

So I sit back down on the ledge,

Overlooking the sea.

The sea where we once swam,

Just you and me.

​

You slowly walk towards me,

I see you've changed a lot.

You no longer skip,

You're no longer a boy

You no longer grin, like you just got a toy.

Your teeth look perfect

And so does your face.

You also wear a smirk

Like you just fell from grace.

​

And before I knew it,

You stood in front of me

You placed your hand on my shoulder

Holding me tightly

I placed my hand on top of yours,

And smile as the pain goes away.

All I saw was the boy, who came at midnight to play.

​

But before I could react,

You pushed me hard and so I fell.

And so the last thing I see,

Is your face before I finally go to hell.

With my eyes, I ask you why.

And with a knowing smile, you reply

"Because I'm finally letting you go."

​

So as I fall into the sea,

A sudden calm takes over me.

Maybe you really are my friend,

For I am finally set free.
