North Raleigh's days-long search for a venomous zebra cobra ends with a glue trap.
Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, law enforcement and animal control officers trapped the venomous snake on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

To ensure fully removal of the glue from the cobra's body, we guided it into a red bucket and took it to a safe area.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved that the ordeal was over.

It makes me really happy and I feel much more secure, she said. After spending time on my deck, I feel like I can go outside now. However, I feel bad for the snake.

Snakes can spit up to nine feet and are faster than most snakes. A morning dog walk turns into a dangerous event when the snake spits this wide. It is a very dangerous snake according to the African Snakebite Institute. An animal's venom could cause the victim's nervous system to shut down.

Anyone exposed to the poison of the cobra would experience immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Afterward, a fever and breathing problems would result, possibly resulting in respiratory failure.

An enthusiastic veterinarian, Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

The cobras in this species are not typically biting. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.

Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.

During sleep, most bites occur. Bite victims may suffer health problems for years, research reveals.

There was a police search of a home near 6917 Chamonix Place where a cobra was last observed on Tuesday afternoon.

This home was visited four times by police during the month of March. The zebra cobra was spotted on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.
