Glue trap in Raleigh ends daylong search for venomous zebra cobra.
As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap was finally able to capture the deadly snake on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.

Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. As it lifted its head, the hood was visible.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

The search was sparked by a 911 call from the same home early Tuesday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap finally captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday, capping an unusual 48-hour saga that garnered national attention.

To completely remove the glue from its body, the cobra was seated in a red bucket and transported to a safe location.

An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved that the ordeal was over.

She said she feels much safer now and is very happy. Now that I'm outside, I can go on my deck and have a walk. The snake, though, must have felt bad.

There is a striped snake in the yard of a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has gone missing.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. The African Snakebite Institute reports that this snake is very dangerous. The venom can cause the nervous system to shut down.

Those stung by the poison would experience severe pain, swelling, rashes, nausea, and diarrhea as a result. In the next few hours, a heavy fever would occur, as well as respiratory difficulty.

A veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Salina Locke, treats all sorts of animals there.

Normally, this cobra species does not bite. She said they are more likely to spray their venom . they are very precise and go straight for the eyes.

According to Locke, this snake is not suitable for keeping as a pet.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home in 6917 Chamonix Place, near the spot where the cobra was first spotted.

In March, police visited the home four times because of an animal problem. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.

Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address, according to county records. The Facebook page containing Keith Gifford's name contains several photos of snakes that he claims to own.

On TikTok, Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers. According to one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot zebra cobra.
