A Look At Popular Electric Cooktops
Cooktops come in all shapes and sizes. Both are ideal choices, but it is important to know the differences between them, which shall be your best choice for what kinds of food you tend to cook the most. Electric cooktops utilize a central heating source to generate the heat that cooks your food. Under the top surface of your cooktop, there are typically metal coils which are heated by an electrical current. In this case, electricity or gas are the chosen fuels for fuel, and these cookers get their power from either the gas, coal or electricity grid.

The primary advantage of an electric cooktop over gas or coal cooktops is that it does not produce smoke nor does it give off fumes, so it is more healthy for your family. Also, it is easier to clean up. Many people are afraid of getting fumes or smoke out of their house, which is why many people use induction cooktops instead. Induction cooktops heat up using magnetic energy. This means that the cooktop is coated on the inside with metal coatings to prevent the metallic pieces of the pan from being damaged, and also that the coils in the pan are encased in magnetic fields so that they do not get overheated.

Heat is produced by heating up the coils to create a magnetic field, which warms up the surrounding metal coil and the metal of the cookware. With this uniform heating, the heat is uniformly distributed evenly throughout the pan, creating a smooth ceramic electric cooktop surface.

Ceramic, porcelain and stainless steel cooktops all have disadvantages, too. For instance, ceramic will react with foods cooked on the stovetop, meaning there will be some transfer of metals and fats to the food. Porcelain, while durable and able to withstand extreme heat, can also scratch if something is dropped on the top. Stainless steel can get too hot and the surface can become uneven, so you will need to be careful how you handle and place items on the stovetop.

What makes induction cooktops so different is that they do not use any kind of fuel source like gas, oil or electricity. The inner coil is made of magnetized metal. This allows the inner coil to generate electricity, heat up and then give off heat over time. The coil heats up because of the movement of electric charge through the coils. Because the electricity generated is direct, the cooktop will only get hot when it comes in contact with one side of the coil. As the electricity is conducted down the conductors, heat is produced as a byproduct.

Another benefit is that it conducts heat up through walls, meaning your pots, pans and griddles will not absorb it. The heat cannot seep through the pan into your food. The inner coil acts as a barrier so you do not have to worry about being burned, charring or scorched. Cooktops like this are very popular in the ovens because they allow people to easily turn off the oven without having to get up and move the table. They are also ideal for those who do not want their pots or pans to get scorched. You can simply close the oven and close the door.

There are three basic types of cooktops. Convection, surface or induction. They also come in a wide range of sizes with different cooking surface areas. The most popular today are the smooth ceramic electric cooktops. However, you do have other choices, including the tile and porcelain types.

The smooth top surface of these cooktops makes it easy to clean and there is no chance of a metallic taste when using a metal brush to remove any bits of burnt food. However, the biggest benefit is that you don't need a gas burner to have an electric induction cooking system. Instead, the electricity heats the water that is used to transfer heat from the heating element to the food. So, you can still use gas burners if you want.
